Rising Stars: Meet Samantha Rudolph of Virginia

Today we’d like to introduce you to Samantha Rudolph.

Samantha, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My story might be a familiar one to a lot of people, especially in the Hampton roads area!

I acquired my degree in math and science, and wanted to continue on into the medical pediatrics field.
However, between my husband career as an active duty service member for the US NAVY, as well as being a new mom in back in 2017, my continuation of schooling had to be placed on hold. We received new duty station orders to Guam.

That’s when my hobby of taking as many portraits as I could with my own children and family, quickly turned into an amazing artwork and Business creating those keepsakes for others!

We moved to Norfolk on only one year orders. I took the risk, and leaped into opening a commercial space studio while my husband was deployed.

The community in Chesapeake has been so incredibly supportive of me as a local artist and small business owner. As well as the military community, and having clients from all over the world, also supporting a fellow military spouse.

It’s not easy restarting a business over every time you have to move locations. Especially from the opposite ends of the world (literally) But thanks to God, the community here in Chesapeake and our incredible military community, we’ve been able to flourish.

Now, almost 10 years later, we have created thousands of gorgeous pieces of artwork that families look at in their home every day and it brings them joy and remembrance.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Thankfully it has not been a smooth road. I believe without challenges you cannot be prepared for the strength needed to continue to have a successful business.

Challenges for me are having to relocate every so many years. That one trip from Guam to Chesapeake was definitely a more challenging experience.

Many obstacles and challenges that I personally face being a military spouse is being a mom of three young children, athletes I may add, and running a business and solo parenting while your spouse is deployed/underway.

There’s a lot of sacrifice that comes with opening of business. A lot of sweat equity that people don’t see, but I’m always grateful for challenges because with everyone I either grow or learn from it.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in portrait photography. My specific niches are family pictures, maternity, newborn, children’s, seasonal portraits, business/corporate headshots and feminine empowerment sessions.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I feel in the next 5 to 10 years that there’s gonna be huge shifts with AI. I do believe a lot of photographers are going to burn out and studios will close. It seems like it’s a race to the bottom of the barrel, and a lot of professionals and hobbies in the business are gonna feel mute because AI replaces them.

However, for me, I don’t feel that I am in competition with AI. That human connection and real smiles is not something you’re gonna get from a robot. That moment AI created is not real. That’s not really your baby. That’s not really you in front of a Christmas tree. So do I think there will be huge shifts yes, however, I know that we will withstand them. And integrate AI to be helpful in ways that does not diminish true human art and connection.
