Today we’d like to introduce you to Carrie Wendell.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Friendship Preschool and Child Care Center was established in the 1960s as Graham Road Preschool. Now housed at Friendship United Methodist Church, Friendship Preschool and Child Care Center is a low-cost, well-regarded fixture in the community. In the Pre-K program, children are encouraged to learn, grow, and thrive in a warm, welcoming environment where every child is known, valued, and supported. Our program blends hands-on learning, creativity, and play-based exploration with a strong focus on social-emotional development, helping children build confidence, curiosity, and meaningful friendships. With caring teachers, engaging classrooms, and a safe, nurturing atmosphere, Friendship creates a joyful foundation for lifelong learning. Families can feel confident knowing their children are not only receiving high-quality early education, and are also being cared for with love, patience, kindness, and genuine dedication every day.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Like many early childhood programs, Friendship Preschool and Child Care Center has faced challenges in balancing rising operational costs with its commitment to providing affordable, high-quality care for families. Despite these obstacles, Friendship has remained dedicated to creating a stable, nurturing environment for children by supporting its teachers, maintaining strong relationships with families, and adapting to meet the evolving needs of the community. These challenges have ultimately strengthened the preschool’s sense of resilience and purpose, reinforcing our mission to provide dependable, loving care and meaningful early learning experiences for every child.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Friendship Preschool and Child Care Center provides a caring, engaging environment where children can learn, explore, and develop the skills they need for future success. The center specializes in early childhood education that combines structured learning with hands-on play, helping children grow academically, socially, and emotionally. Friendship is known for its warm community atmosphere, dedicated and loving teachers, and strong focus on building meaningful relationships with both children and families. Rather than treating child care as simple supervision, the program emphasizes creativity, kindness, confidence, and individualized support so that every child feels seen and encouraged.
What truly sets Friendship apart is its sense of connection and genuine care. Families know their children are entering a safe, welcoming environment where teachers take the time to understand each child’s personality, strengths, and needs. The center takes pride in creating a space where children not only prepare for kindergarten, but also develop friendships, independence, and a love of learning. One of our greatest sources of pride is seeing children grow in confidence over time and watching families become part of a close-knit community that trusts and supports one another.
