Today we’d like to introduce you to Kenyatta Kavo.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My journey has been shaped by service, resilience, faith, and a passion for community. Before stepping into entrepreneurship, I spent years serving in the military and later working in spaces centered around leadership and helping others. Those experiences taught me discipline, compassion, and the importance of creating environments where people feel supported and encouraged.
Fitness and wellness became an important part of my own personal growth journey, and over time, what started as a passion evolved into a bigger vision. Alongside my significant other; I co-founded MuVe Studios in Alexandria, Virginia — a boutique wellness and fitness studio focused on movement, connection, and creating a welcoming experience for everyone who walks through our doors.
Like many small business owners, the journey has come with challenges, pivots, and a lot of learning along the way. Building something from the ground up requires faith, consistency, and the ability to keep showing up even when things are uncertain. But through it all, the goal has remained the same: to build a space that inspires people to grow, move with confidence, and prioritize their well-being.
Today, MuVe Studios continues to grow through community, meaningful connections, and a shared belief that wellness should feel empowering and accessible. Our motto is, “You don’t have to workout; you get to workout,” and that mindset is at the heart of everything we do.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely has not been a completely smooth road. Like many small business owners, there have been challenges behind the scenes that people don’t always see. Building a business from the ground up requires a lot of sacrifice, patience, and faith — especially in today’s economy.
One of the biggest lessons has been learning how to navigate uncertainty while still showing up consistently for our community. There were moments of self-doubt, financial pressure, and long days where we had to wear multiple hats just to keep things moving forward.
As a newer boutique wellness studio, we’ve also had to work hard to build awareness, trust, and community in a very competitive industry. But every challenge has strengthened us and reminded us why we started in the first place.
What keeps me motivated is seeing people walk into the studio and leave feeling stronger, encouraged, and more confident than when they arrived. Those moments make the difficult days worth it. I’ve learned that growth rarely happens in comfort, and that mindset has become part of both my personal journey and the culture we’re building at MuVe Studios.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
We offer a variety of classes and experiences including HIIT, Boot Camp, Sculpt, Yoga, Dance Fitness, semi-private training, and wellness and community events. Our goal is to create a space where people can move their bodies, build confidence, and feel connected.
What I’m most proud of is the community we’re building. From the beginning, I wanted MuVe Studios to feel like more than just a place to workout. We’ve worked hard to create an environment where people feel encouraged, supported, and comfortable showing up exactly as they are — whether they’re just starting their wellness journey or have been active for years.
I believe what sets us apart is the atmosphere and intention behind the brand. We focus on creating an experience that feels both elevated and authentic. Our classes are challenging and energizing, but the environment is still welcoming, inclusive, and community-centered.
As a small business, we’ve poured a lot of heart into every detail, and I’m proud that people are starting to recognize MuVe Studios as a space centered around movement, growth, and genuine connection.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
One thing I’ve learned is that networking works best when it comes from a genuine place instead of focusing only on what someone can do for you. Some of the most meaningful connections I’ve made started with simply showing up consistently, supporting other people’s businesses, attending community events, and building relationships over time.
I also think it’s important to stay open to learning from people in different stages of life and business. Mentorship doesn’t always have to look formal. Sometimes it’s a conversation, shared advice, or simply observing how someone carries themselves and leads.
For me, authenticity and consistency have worked better than trying to force connections. I’ve found that when you lead with integrity, support others, and stay committed to your vision, the right people naturally begin to align with what you’re building.
My advice would be to stay connected to your community, don’t be afraid to introduce yourself, and remember that relationships are built over time. Some of the best opportunities come from simply being present, reliable, and willing to grow.
