Hidden Gems: Meet David/Amy Hufcut of Dells Dairy Bar

Today we’d like to introduce you to David/Amy Hufcut.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Wow, what a journey this has been — and we’re so grateful to have the community along for the ride! We’re David and Amy, proud owners of Dell’s Dairy Bar, but our story started long before the ice cream.

We both grew up in Orange County, New York, on a dairy farm in the small town of Circleville. Farming wasn’t just what we did — it was who we were. It taught us hard work, family values, community, and a deep appreciation for the dairy industry and the animals that make it possible. After school, David took over the family farm, becoming the fourth-generation dairy farmer in his family.

As we built our own family, we knew we wanted to raise our children with the same values and experiences we grew up with. We eventually relocated to Chambersburg, Pennsylvania, where we started BMB Farm LLC. For the next 20 years, we milked cows, raised calves, and lived the demanding but rewarding life of dairy farming.

As our children grew older and began creating lives of their own, we found ourselves ready for a new chapter. In 2018, we sold the farm and followed a longtime dream of moving to Virginia. We settled on a small farm in Rice, bringing along a few of our beloved cows to keep a piece of that life with us.

One of those cows was Dell — a sweet heifer born in September 2020 who quickly stole our hearts. Naming our business after her felt like the perfect way to honor our farming roots and the dairy heritage that has shaped so much of our lives.

After moving to the area, we noticed something surprising — Farmville didn’t have an ice cream shop. With our background in dairy farming, love for community, and family history that included ice cream, it felt like the perfect opportunity to bring something special to town. In spring 2024, Dell’s Dairy Bar officially opened.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Opening a small business comes with challenges anywhere, and Farmville is no exception. Like many small business owners, building awareness, growing a customer base, and navigating the day-to-day demands of running a business has been a learning experience. But the support we’ve received from the community has made all the difference.

As you know, we’re big fans of Dells Dairy Bar . For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Dell’s Dairy Bar is about more than serving ice cream. For us, it’s a way to share a piece of our story, celebrate our agricultural roots, and create a welcoming place for the community to come together — one scoop at a time.

To everyone who has stopped by, supported us, shared a kind word, or made Dell’s part of their routine — thank you. You’ve made this journey sweeter than we ever imagined.

What does success mean to you?
One of our greatest successes has simply been seeing people gather together at Dell’s — families, friends, students, neighbors, and visitors creating memories over ice cream. Watching the community embrace what we’ve built has been incredibly rewarding.
