Hidden Gems: Meet Michael Savino of Nexus Box LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Savino.

Hi Michael, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve been building businesses and solving operational problems for most of my life. I started young with technology and design, launching early ventures like Cool Beans Computer Solutions, Dream Art Studios, and Artisan Graphics before eventually building Nexus Box LLC into a full-service web development and technology consulting company. Over the years, I worked across ecommerce, healthcare, government, education, tourism, and other industries, helping businesses build better websites, infrastructure, automations, and systems. A lot of my career has really come down to one thing: taking scattered, complicated problems and turning them into something structured, useful, and scalable.

In 2018, my life changed when I was diagnosed with a rare desmoid tumor / aggressive fibromatosis near my left shoulder and scapula. Treatment involved surgeries, chemotherapy, radiation, cryoablation, more than a year of left-arm paralysis, and lasting nerve damage from a brachial plexus injury. I’m now almost five years in remission, but that experience permanently changed how I look at time, business, and resilience. I continued building through treatment and recovery, and it gave me a much sharper sense of urgency around creating leverage, building strong systems, and not waiting for perfect conditions to move forward.

That mindset eventually led me to Kerno, where I now serve as CEO. Kerno came from seeing the same problem over and over again: businesses were working hard, but they didn’t really know their numbers, their systems, or the truth hiding inside their own operations. Today, across Kerno, Nexus Box LLC, and Nexus Box Studio LLC, my work is focused on helping people create clarity from chaos — whether that’s through AI, automation, ecommerce, web development, or operational systems. The short version is: I got here by building, getting knocked down, building anyway, and learning that the right systems can change everything.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, it definitely hasn’t been a smooth road — but I don’t think the smooth road teaches you much anyway. I’ve had the normal entrepreneurial struggles: starting businesses before I had all the answers, learning through mistakes, dealing with cash flow, wearing too many hats, trying to build teams, trying to win clients, and figuring out how to turn skill into something scalable. Early on, I built companies like Kool Beanzs Computer Solutions, Dream Art Studios, and Artisan Graphics, and each one taught me something different about customers, operations, technology, and what it really takes to keep a business alive.

The biggest struggle came in 2018, when I was diagnosed with a rare desmoid tumor / aggressive fibromatosis near my left shoulder and scapula. Treatment included surgeries, chemotherapy, radiation, cryoablation, more than a year of left-arm paralysis, and lasting nerve damage from a brachial plexus injury. I’m now almost five years in remission, but that experience changed everything. It forced me to rebuild physically, mentally, and professionally while still trying to keep momentum in my business and support my family.

That season gave me a much sharper understanding of time, leverage, and resilience. It also shaped the way I build companies now. I don’t believe in waiting for perfect conditions, because I’ve had to move forward in some very imperfect ones. A lot of what I do today through Kerno, Inc., Nexus Box LLC, and Nexus Box Studio LLC comes from that experience — helping people build better systems, understand their numbers, and create clarity before chaos takes over. So no, it wasn’t smooth, but it made me better, more focused, and a lot harder to knock off course.

As you know, we’re big fans of Nexus Box LLC. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Nexus Box LLC is a web development, technology consulting, and business systems company based in Winchester, Virginia. We help businesses build the digital infrastructure they need to operate, grow, and scale — whether that means custom web development, ecommerce platforms, secure hosting, automation, integrations, AI systems, cybersecurity, or complex backend architecture. We’ve worked across industries like ecommerce, healthcare, government, education, tourism, and professional services, so we’re used to solving problems where the website is only one piece of a much bigger operational puzzle.

What sets Nexus Box apart is that we don’t approach projects like a typical “make a website and move on” agency. We look at the whole system: how the business runs, where information gets lost, where customers get stuck, where teams waste time, and where technology can create real leverage. A lot of companies come to us thinking they need a website, but what they really need is clarity, better infrastructure, cleaner processes, and a technical partner who can connect the dots. That’s where we do our best work.

Brand-wise, I’m most proud that Nexus Box has been built on trust, execution, and long-term relationships. We’re not trying to be the loudest agency in the room. We’re trying to be the team clients can call when something matters, when something is broken, or when they need someone who can actually figure it out. Our work is rooted in a simple belief: technology should not make business more complicated. It should create clarity, protect the operation, improve the customer experience, and give the business room to grow.

Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
One of my favorite childhood memories is pretty simple, but it still sticks with me — riding my bike around the lake in the neighborhood where I grew up with a bunch of friends. We’d meet up with other kids in the neighborhood, ride around, play outside, and then spend weekends playing video games or just hanging out. It was that classic early 90s childhood where you had a little bit of technology, but not enough for it to run your life.

As much as I love technology now, there was something special about growing up before everyone had a cell phone in their hand. Nobody could really find you when you didn’t want to be found — you just came home when it got dark. There was a freedom to that era that’s hard to recreate now. Bikes, friends, video games, no constant notifications — you really can’t beat the 90s.
