Inspiring Conversations with Esra Pozan Warren of Pozan Productions

Today we’d like to introduce you to Esra Pozan Warren.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My journey as a photographer began in 2008 in Türkiye, where I turned a lifelong passion for storytelling and human connection into a professional career. What started as a love for capturing meaningful moments quickly grew into a full-time business, and over the years I had the opportunity to photograph people, families, weddings, newborns, and businesses across different countries and cultures.

From the very beginning, I was fascinated by the power of photography to preserve emotions and memories that would otherwise fade with time. Whether it was a couple celebrating their wedding day, a family welcoming a new baby, or an entrepreneur building a brand, I loved being trusted with such important moments in people’s lives.

As my experience grew, so did my business. I founded Pozan Productions and spent many years building a strong client base throughout Europe while continuously expanding my skills across multiple photography specialties, including weddings, maternity, newborns, families, portraits, fashion, commercial photography, and events. Before relocating to the United States, I was fortunate to build an international photography career that allowed me to travel extensively throughout Europe, as well as to Dubai, Los Angeles, and Miami, solely for photography assignments and client projects. Photography also allowed me to combine two of my greatest passions: creativity and travel. I had the privilege of working with people from many different backgrounds and cultures, which helped shape both my artistic style and my perspective on life.

A major turning point came when I moved to the United States and settled in Williamsburg, Virginia. Starting over in a new country was both exciting and challenging. I left behind an established business and reputation to build a new chapter from scratch. While it wasn’t always easy, I saw it as an opportunity to grow personally and professionally.

Today, Pozan Productions serves clients throughout Virginia and beyond. What makes me happiest is that after more than 18 years in this industry, I still feel the same excitement before every session that I felt when I first started. My goal has never been simply to take beautiful photographs. I want people to feel comfortable, confident, and genuinely seen in front of my camera. Many of my clients tell me that I make them feel at ease, and that’s one of the compliments I value most.

Beyond photography, I believe in celebrating people exactly as they are. I proudly welcome clients from all backgrounds, cultures, religions, identities, and walks of life. Every person has a story worth telling, and I feel incredibly grateful that photography allows me to help preserve those stories for future generations.

Looking back, my path has taken me from a young photographer in Türkiye to a business owner serving clients internationally and now building a new life and business in Virginia. It’s been a journey filled with learning, challenges, growth, and unforgettable people. And honestly, I feel like the most exciting chapters are still ahead.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, it definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road.

One of the biggest challenges throughout my career has been the demanding nature of the photography industry itself.
Photography is one of those professions where much of the work happens when everyone else is enjoying their weekends, holidays, and special occasions. There were periods when I was working extremely long hours, balancing photo sessions, editing, client communication, marketing, and running a business at the same time. As many small business owners know, wearing multiple hats can be both rewarding and exhausting.

Another challenge that people don’t often see is how quickly the industry evolves. Photography is a field that requires continuous learning. New cameras, lenses, lighting equipment, editing software, AI-powered tools, and business technologies are constantly emerging. Staying competitive means being willing to learn, adapt, and invest in both education and equipment throughout your career. What worked five years ago may not be enough today, so maintaining a growth mindset has been essential.

A major turning point came when I moved from Türkiye to the United States. Building a successful business takes years, and relocating meant leaving behind an established reputation, professional network, and client base to start over in a completely new environment. There were moments of uncertainty, but I chose to see them as opportunities for growth rather than setbacks.

At the same time, some of the most rewarding parts of my career have come from the relationships I’ve built along the way. Many clients who initially hired me for a photography session have become friends over the years. Being invited into some of the most meaningful moments of people’s lives is a privilege I never take for granted.

Looking back, every challenge has taught me something valuable. The long hours, the travel, the constant need to evolve with the industry, and the experience of building a new life and business in a new country have all helped shape the person and business owner I am today.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Pozan Productions?
Pozan Productions is a photography company built on the belief that every person, family, and business has a unique story worth preserving. Founded in 2008, the company has evolved from a passion project into a full time photography business serving clients throughout Virginia and beyond.

Over the years, I have had the privilege of photographing weddings, families, newborns, maternity sessions, portraits, fashion campaigns, commercial projects, and special events. This variety has allowed me to develop a versatile approach while always focusing on what matters most: creating authentic images that reflect each client’s personality and story.

What sets Pozan Productions apart is the experience clients have in front of the camera. While beautiful images are important, my primary goal is to help people feel comfortable, confident, and genuinely seen. Many clients tell me that they were nervous before their session but quickly felt at ease, and that is one of the greatest compliments I can receive.

I also believe that photography should be inclusive and welcoming to everyone. I proudly work with people of all backgrounds, cultures, religions, identities, and family structures. Every story deserves to be celebrated and documented with care, respect, and authenticity.

One of the things I am most proud of is the long term relationships I have built throughout my career. Many clients return year after year as their lives grow and change, from engagements to weddings, maternity sessions, newborn portraits, family milestones, and beyond. Being trusted to document multiple chapters of someone’s life is something I never take for granted.

Today, Pozan Productions serves clients throughout Williamsburg, Hampton Roads, Richmond, Northern Virginia, Washington, D.C., and destination locations. After more than 17 years in the industry, I still approach every session with the same excitement and gratitude that inspired me when I first picked up a camera.

For me, photography is about more than creating beautiful images. It is about preserving memories, celebrating people, and telling stories that will be treasured for generations.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
I am a lifelong learner, so I am always looking for ways to grow both personally and professionally. As a photographer and business owner, I enjoy following photography and entrepreneurship content to stay inspired and keep up with changes in the industry. Photography is constantly evolving, and I believe it’s important to remain curious and open to learning.

I also enjoy exploring new tools and technology that can help photographers work more efficiently and better serve their clients. One app I am especially excited about is Viewdora, a project my husband and I have been developing for photographers. It was created to help photographers securely share their work with clients while protecting their images, and building it has given me a whole new appreciation for innovation and problem solving.

I also enjoy reading books focused on personal growth, mindset, and human behavior. Photography is about much more than cameras and technical skills. It is about understanding people, building trust, and creating genuine connections. Learning how people think, communicate, and experience the world has helped me become both a better photographer and a better business owner.

Beyond books and online resources, I believe some of the most valuable lessons come from real life experiences. Traveling, meeting people from different cultures, and hearing their stories has taught me so much over the years. Every person I meet and every place I visit offers a new perspective, and I try to bring that sense of curiosity and openness into both my work and everyday life.
