Today we’d like to introduce you to Rocio Iglesias.
Hi Rocio , please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
For over 17 years, we have been dedicated to creating a warm, family-oriented environment where children feel safe, supported, and inspired to learn. Our journey began in 2009 as a small home daycare with just five enrolled students. In fact, that’s where our name, Hi Five Daycare, came from—a celebration of those first five children and the dream of creating a nurturing place for families. From the very beginning, our program was built on a passion for caring for young children and supporting our community.
As our program grew and more families joined us, we had the opportunity to expand into our childcare center in Chantilly in August of last year. While we have grown over the years, our mission has remained the same: to provide high-quality care in a loving, welcoming environment where every child is treated as an individual and every family feels valued.
Today, we continue to build on the same foundation of kindness, trust, bilingual education, and personalized care that has guided us from the very beginning. We are proud of how far we’ve come and grateful for the many families who have been part of our journey along the way.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not always been a smooth road. Teaching and nurturing children is my passion—it’s truly my calling. Creating engaging activities, innovating, and maintaining that same enthusiasm year after year comes naturally to me. However, like many families and small businesses, we faced significant challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic.
When our doors had to close, we knew we had to find a way to stay connected with our children and families. We developed a plan to meet through Zoom several times each day. We held short morning sessions where the children could sing songs, share about their day, and see their friends. We also hosted story time and some additional sessions for our older children to complete crafts and learning activities together.
Each weekend, we prepared and delivered activity materials to families so the children could participate from home, and we relied heavily on parents’ support. While we were grateful to have a way to continue learning and connecting, it was incredibly challenging. Young children thrive on hands-on experiences and personal interaction, and keeping their attention through a screen was difficult. Most of the time, we had about ten minutes before they would start to lose interest.
Despite those challenges, the experience reminded us how important community, creativity, and relationships are in early childhood education. It strengthened our commitment to supporting families through difficult times and reinforced why we love what we do.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Hi Five Daycare ?
At Hi Five Daycare, we believe that language is best learned through meaningful experiences, not lessons. That’s why we offer a true Spanish immersion environment where children don’t simply study Spanish—they live it. From infancy through Pre-K, our children hear, speak, sing, play, and learn in Spanish throughout the day, allowing it to become a natural and joyful part of their lives.
What truly sets us apart is our commitment to individualized care. Every child is unique, and we take the time to understand their personality, interests, developmental needs, and learning style. Through personalized learning experiences, gentle transitions, emotional support, and highly trained educators dedicated to ongoing professional development, we create an environment where children feel safe, valued, and confident.
Our program is also inspired by Montessori principles, encouraging independence and self-confidence from an early age. In our calm, thoughtfully prepared classrooms, children are given opportunities to make choices, solve problems, care for themselves, and develop practical life skills. Whether pouring water, zipping a jacket, or navigating social interactions, we empower children to say, “I can do it myself.”
Most importantly, we are proud to be a place where learning, love, and language come together. Our mission is to provide a nurturing environment where children build confidence, form meaningful relationships, and discover the joy of learning through play, exploration, and connection. We honor childhood, celebrate each child’s individuality, and support families every step of the way.
At Hi Five Daycare, we’re not just preparing children for school—we’re helping them become confident, compassionate, bilingual learners for life.
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
Over the next 5–10 years, early childhood education will continue to shift toward more personalized, bilingual, and child-centered approaches. Families are increasingly looking for programs that support the whole child—language development, emotional growth, independence, and social skills—not just academics.
We also see a strong rise in demand for Spanish immersion and Montessori-inspired learning, as parents value early independence, problem-solving, and real-world life skills. Social-emotional development will remain a major focus, helping children build confidence, empathy, and resilience from an early age.
At Hi Five Daycare, we welcome these changes because they reflect what we already believe in: nurturing confident, curious, and bilingual children in a calm, loving environment where every child is supported as an individual.
