Hi Susan, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I am the founder and principal designer of Bridget Beari Designs, an award-winning interior design firm I have owned and operated for the past 35 years. We specialize primarily in luxury residential design projects along the East Coast, from New York to Florida, while also serving clients internationally, including projects in Costa Rica and Mexico. The firm was named after two beloved rescue dogs, Bridget and Beari, and giving back remains a core part of our company culture. Throughout the year, we actively support animal rescue organizations and related charitable initiatives. Over the years, the Bridget Beari brand has expanded to include three additional divisions: Bridget Beari Colors, a collection of custom paint colors; Bridget Beari Papers, a line of custom-designed wallpaper; and Bridget Beari Home Store, our retail home furnishings and décor boutique.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Like many business owners, one of the biggest challenges I have faced over the years has been building and retaining the right team. In the design industry, talented designers often aspire to launch their own firms, while others are primarily interested in the creative aspects of the profession rather than the operational and project management responsibilities that are essential to running a successful business. Over time, I have learned the importance of finding team members whose skills, goals, and work ethic align with our company culture. Today, we have a staff of six, which has proven to be the ideal size for our firm. This structure allows us to provide highly personalized service to our clients while maintaining a collaborative and efficient work environment.
We’ve been impressed with Bridget Beari Designs, Inc., but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We are a female-founded interior design firm with complementary product lines and a retail store, all built around a passion for helping clients create beautiful, personalized homes. Giving back is also central to our mission, and we proudly support animal rescue organizations throughout the year. While our work encompasses all aspects of interior design, we are perhaps best known for our expertise in color. One client affectionately refers to me as the “Queen of Color,” not because I choose the boldest colors, but because I understand how to select the right colors for a space and how they interact with light, architecture, furnishings, and one another. That expertise inspired my newest book, Bridget Beari Color Rules, a practical guide to choosing and using color in the home. Written for everyday homeowners, the book shares the principles and techniques I have developed throughout my career, helping readers confidently incorporate color into every aspect of their interiors, from paint and wallpaper to furnishings, fabrics, and accessories.
What matters most to you?
Creating beautiful interiors that enhance my clients’ lives is what matters most to me. Design is not just about making a space look beautiful. It is about creating a home that reflects the people who live there and supports the way they want to live. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing a client’s vision come to life and knowing that we have created a space they will enjoy for years to come.
