Life & Work with Lauren Manturi of Virginia

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Manturi.

Hi Lauren, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
An appreciation for flowers was engrained in me from a young age. My grandma was a florist and my mom has always loved them. But it wasn’t until adulthood that the love really took root in me. Growing up, I would have classified baking as my main hobby. Then, as I moved from apartments into my first house, flowers became my way of expressing myself and making a space feel like home.
I never thought I’d bring those two passions, baking and flowers, together. A few years ago, in a “what would my perfect job look like” daydream, the idea for Savor & Stem was born. It stayed just an idea for a while until this past year when I finally found the courage to take the leap. Even if it didn’t work out, I didn’t want to look back and say I never tried.
I’m a working mom of two, so a storefront isn’t in the cards (yet) though it’s definitely the long-term dream. Right now, I’m running things out of my house, sharing both passions in a way that fits around my life.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has been incredibly fun but definitely not smooth. It’s been a lot of late nights, wearing multiple hats, and figuring out how to make a lot out of very little. There’s been a ton of learning as I go, but every hurdle has turned into a good lesson in disguise.
Right now it’s just me and my husband running things, so a lot of this journey is powered by morale, coffee, and a dream.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Savor & Stem is a boutique florist and bakery specializing in event experiences, classes, and community-oriented projects. What sets us apart is the combination itself of flowers and baked goods together. We like to say it’s a love story between flowers and something sweet on the table.

Whether someone is ordering sweets, a bouquet, or a combination of both, our goal is the same: we want every customer to feel special. There is nothing like that feeling of someone opening a box or receiving an arrangement and just lighting up. That’s probably what I’m most proud of – being able to give someone that feeling.

What matters most to you?
Quality matters most to me. The passion fades the moment you start rushing just to scale. I hope Savor & Stem does grow, of course that’s the dream! As we grow, I hope we never lose the joy we have right now being creative and striving to make something truly special.
