Conversations with DJ Sleep Ez

Today we’d like to introduce you to DJ Sleep Ez.

DJ Sleep, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Well my story no different then most but its definitely an authentic one. I’m come from the struggle and I dabble into the drug dealer lifestyle. Wasn’t the plugged like most people claim they were 😂 but was moving weed like it wasn’t nothing. The music industry never crossed my mind even my dad side of the family was all into it when I was young. Then some bs happened in the hustle game that kind of got me to slow it down dramatically and 1 of the biggest radio DJs was actually living in my neighborhood who name was DJ Foot. Like I said I never gave the industry no time of day besides listening to music, buying the latest projects, watching videos, and keeping up with the latest news. Never thought twice about the business and how things truly operate behind the scenes. So anyways DJ Foot see me sitting on the porch and ask me to ride with him so I hope in like we spoke in passing in the neighborhood but no serious conversation but something got me to jump in with him. He had a show to work in the city featuring the new R&B artist Nivea and from there I was introduced to the DJ lifestyle you know backstage, v.i.p treatment meeting all the city tastemakers, and actually meeting Nivea. I lost the pic you know this the throwaway camera era once u got your pics out of them 😂. So once we got back DJ Foot gave me some money for going with him and helping out. The amount i won’t disclosed but it was enough to have me comeback over to his crib and starting hanging with him. Remember the hustle game got slow and it had me looking over my shoulders constantly and I just knew he was the way out. So that how I got in the industry.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely wasn’t a smooth road. I done got locked up many times which kept setting me back. Making bad investments for exposure, trusting and listening to the wrong people. The timing in my market for me was bad for an on the rise DJ only person open a few doors was DJ Foot nobody else was letting me in or around there operation. of course just life in general adjusting to the slower money, having my daughter, and amongst other things.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I have been in the industry now for over 20 yrs. Worked with a lot of people in the industry such as Rich The Kid, Big Boogie,
Yo Gotti, omeretta The Great, Lil Scrappy, Migos, Coach K & P from Quality Control, Young Greatness, Bankroll Fresh, J Prince Jr, and many more……….

Who else deserves credit in your story?
Its a long list of people who have help me along the way DJ Foot, Penelope Jones, DJ Jrama (Hawaii), DJ Herbluva, my Mom and family, Leon Porter, KD (My2K Foundation, Damion & E (Rapalot Midwest), DJ Deewizard (Hawaii), like I said so many more people have been involved.
