Today we’d like to introduce you to Yue Werning.
Hi Yue, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Fourteen years ago, I suffered a shattered kneecap in a running accident. After more than three months of acupuncture, chiropractic and physical therapy, my knee flexion was still zero. I could not drive, and I could not walk.
Then, a six-hour professional Traditional Chinese therapeutic massage treatment changed everything. For the first time, my knee was able to bend again, and I was able to return to a normal life. That experience completely changed my life and showed me that true therapeutic massage is much more than relaxation—it can help the body heal, reduce pain, and even change a person’s life.
Because I personally benefited from therapeutic massage, I founded Massage Therapy Works in 2013. My goal was to help others overcome pain, recover from surgery and sports injuries, and find real solutions to the physical suffering that affects their daily lives.
For over 13 years, Massage Therapy Works has been helping people in Northern Virginia reduce pain, recover from injuries and surgery, improve sleep, and enjoy a better quality of life.
For me, the greatest reward is not owning a business—it is seeing clients truly benefit from treatment. Many people walk in with pain, stress, and worried expressions on their faces; seeing them walk out of the treatment room excited, relieved, and smiling from ear to ear is incredibly rewarding.
Watching people walk in with pain and walk out with a smile is what has motivated me to continue this work for the past 13 years.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
One of the biggest challenges over the years has been helping people understand the true value of therapeutic massage. Many people think massage is only for relaxation and are not aware of its role in relieving pain, supporting recovery, and improving physical function.
During treatment, some clients may experience soreness, tenderness, or discomfort and may not immediately understand these reactions. I completely understand their concerns because I went through the same experience myself during my own recovery.
As more people have benefited from treatment, they have come to recognize that professional therapeutic massage is much more than relaxation—it is a valuable tool for healing, recovery, and improving overall health and well-being.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Massage Therapy Works is a therapeutic and recovery-focused massage therapy. We are dedicated to helping our clients reduce pain, find real solutions for their health concerns, and discover treatments that truly support the body’s healing and recovery.
We combine traditional Chinese therapeutic massage principles with modern massage therapy, specializing in pain relief, injury recovery, post-surgery rehabilitation, and personalized therapeutic treatments designed to meet each client’s individual needs.
For the past 13 years, what we are most proud of is not simply running a business, but seeing our clients walk in with pain and walk out with a smile.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson I have learned is that the human body has a remarkable ability to heal itself, but it needs the right support and the right approach to do so.
