Today we’d like to introduce you to Bryant Edwards.
Hi Bryant, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My background is very broad. As a kid I cut grass in my neighborhood and I loved it. As I got older I worked in the Lawn & Garden department at 3 different big box home improvement stores before trying to make a go at it in direct sales. I was great at it but didn’t like it. I then moved into cell phone sales for a few years. When the opportunity came up for me to go into the finance industry I took the leap. I liked it when times were good but not so much of a fan when things went sour in 2008-2009. I then worked as a teacher for students studying for their GED’s and transitioned to helping those who were going back into the workforce after a long break. Then I decided I wanted to get back into lawn care so I worked for the largest commercial landscaper in the country and learned the best techniques for working through a property. I was eventually lured away from that to work as a scale house operator for a scrap metal recycling company. I said all that to say this. The lawn company they had just stopped showing up so I was asked by my boss to mow the lawn since I had the equipment I would need and the knowledge. He said they would pay me what they paid the last company. I said ok. Fast forward 6 months and a friend who owned a pressure washing company at the time had sent me so many of his clients looking for lawn care I started Olympic Land & Lawn. The business was founded on February 28, 2023 and had 13 customers on day 1. I worked the business part time the first season to get the kinks worked out, buy the needed equipment and build the clientele. I went full time in April 2024.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The biggest struggles I faced were and some still are as follows, not in any particular order:
1. Believing I could do it.
2. Handling the financial ups and downs
3. Pricing the jobs correctly
4. Navigating personal relationships
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We are a full service lawn care company. We provide basic maintenance services such as mowing, edging, trimming, and blow off. We also provide pruning, spring, fall, storm, and leaf cleanups, core aeration, overseeding lawns, mulch installation, spring and fall flower installations, and winter services to maintain the lawn all year long. What sets us apart is that in addition to à la carte service offerings we offer 3 different annual subscription levels. The subscriptions are based on what the property needs and the client gets serviced all year and pays the same each month making it more budget friendly. While we are still a new business we are known for our attention to detail and quality of work. We take pride in the amount of business that gets referred to us as a result. We also offer a service guarantee. If we don’t meet expectations we will go back free of charge and make it right.
What’s next?
Over the next 5 to 10 years we plan to grow the business to multiple locations across the state and to expand into franchising.
