Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaytlin McCoy.
Hi Kaytlin , please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I first discovered my love for photography in college when a friend asked me to help with her engagement photos. This little favor turned into my passion. I found myself drawn to telling people’s stories through images, documenting the joy, emotions and meaningful moments that make each season of life unique.
That passion continued to grow over the years. My business evolved from a hobby to a career. In 2018, I took the leap and made photography my full-time career.
Now I have the privilege of serving couples and families across Virginia. Creating timeless images that help them relive the moments and relationships that matter most is the best career I could’ve imagined. Looking back it’s incredible to see how a single engagement session in college grew into the business and career I’ve always dreamed of building.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road. One of the biggest challenges has been learning how to be a business owner while also being a wife and mom. Running your own business means wearing a lot of hats and finding a healthy work-life balance is something I’m still continually learning and refining.
Another challenge has been navigating growth. I’ve had to learn new skills, adapt to changes in the industry and make decisions that would help me continue moving forward. There have also been times when things didn’t go according to plan or looked different than I originally imagined. Those moments can be discouraging, but they’ve taught me the importance of being flexible, finding a new path forward and trusting the process.
Every challenge has helped shape both my business and who I am as a person. It hasn’t always been easy, but it has absolutely been worth it.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a Virginia wedding photographer specializing in joyful, timeless imagery that helps couples and families preserve the moments that matter most. One of the most rewarding parts of my job is building lasting relationships with my clients and continuing to document their stories long after the wedding day. Many of the couples who chose me to photograph their wedding day now return for maternity, newborn and family sessions. This is such an honor to capture their journey through every season of life.
What I’m most proud of is the experience I create for my clients. I want people to feel comfortable and fully present on their wedding day rather than worrying about the photography part of it. Hearing my couples reactions to their photos makes my heart so happy. I love that I am able to document these moments for them to look back on for years.
I think what sets me apart is my calm presence and ability to anticipate meaningful moments before they happen. I’ve learned that beautiful photographs are more than just posing and lighting. They’re about helping people feel comfortable enough to be themselves. My goal is to create images that feel genuine, effortless, and timeless so they can be treasured for generations to come.
What are your plans for the future?
I’m excited to continue growing my business while staying true to the things that matter most to me such as building genuine relationships with my clients and creating meaningful images. I hope to continue serving more couples across Virginia while also documenting the families who trust me with their milestones long after the wedding day.
I’m always continuing education to better myself and my business. I love looking for ways to refine and elevate the client experience and make my couples feel at ease. More than anything, I’m looking forward to continuing to do the work I love and serving incredible clients.
