Inspiring Conversations with Jasmine Rush of Speaking From the Lens

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jasmine Rush.

Hi Jasmine , so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I am a U.S. Navy veteran, entrepreneur, and storyteller who founded Speaking From the Lens to help individuals and organizations preserve the moments and messages that matter most. What began as a passion for photography evolved into a mission-driven media company focused on strategic photo and video storytelling for speakers, authors, nonprofits, and purpose-driven brands.

Throughout my career, I have served in both military and federal leadership environments, where I saw firsthand how powerful stories, accomplishments, and community impact often go undocumented. That realization inspired me to build a business that not only captures images but helps clients extend their influence and legacy beyond a single event or moment.

Today, Speaking From the Lens serves clients across the veteran, nonprofit, corporate, and entrepreneurial communities. My work combines creativity, strategy, and storytelling to help leaders amplify their message, connect with their audience, and create lasting impact. Along the way, I have also become a speaker, author, and advocate, using my own experiences to encourage others to pursue purpose, resilience, and growth.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road has definitely not been smooth.

Like many entrepreneurs, I have experienced both personal and professional setbacks that forced me to reevaluate my path. Before founding Speaking From the Lens, I launched another business, Christ Janitorial, which ultimately did not succeed. While that experience was difficult, it taught me valuable lessons about business development, operations, customer acquisition, and the importance of building a business that aligns with both your strengths and your purpose.

More recently, I have faced significant health challenges, including Ménière’s disease, vestibular migraines, vertigo, and other chronic conditions that have impacted my daily life and professional career. There have been seasons where managing symptoms, attending medical appointments, and navigating uncertainty became a full-time job in itself.

These experiences have tested my resilience, but they have also strengthened my perspective as an entrepreneur. They have taught me how to adapt, solve problems creatively, and keep moving forward even when circumstances are less than ideal.

Today, Speaking From the Lens exists because I chose not to let those setbacks define me. Instead, I used them as opportunities to grow, refine my vision, and build a business centered on purpose, impact, and legacy. While the journey has been challenging, each obstacle has contributed to the leader and entrepreneur I am today.

We’ve been impressed with Speaking From the Lens, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
What sets Speaking From the Lens apart is that we don’t just capture content we capture emotion, purpose, and legacy. We help speakers, authors, nonprofits, entrepreneurs, and mission-driven organizations transform important moments into strategic media assets that continue working long after an event ends.

As a veteran- and woman-owned media company, we specialize in storytelling-driven photography and videography that helps clients increase visibility, strengthen their brand, and connect more deeply with their audience. Our work includes event coverage, speaker reels, brand storytelling, interviews, promotional videos, and photography.

What I’m most proud of is the trust we’ve earned within the veteran, nonprofit, and entrepreneurial communities. Clients choose us because we take the time to understand their mission and tell their story with authenticity and purpose.

At our core, we believe every story matters. Our mission is to help clients amplify their voice, preserve their legacy, and extend their impact beyond the moment.

In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
Over the next 5–10 years, I believe the media and content creation industry will become increasingly driven by authenticity, storytelling, and strategic content repurposing. While artificial intelligence will continue to transform editing, production, and content distribution, audiences will place even greater value on genuine human connection and real stories.

We’re already seeing a shift away from simply creating content for content’s sake. Organizations, speakers, nonprofits, and brands are looking for media partners who can help them turn a single event, presentation, or initiative into a library of strategic assets that drive engagement long after the moment has passed.

Video will continue to dominate, particularly short-form and vertical content, but the demand for high-quality visual storytelling that builds trust and credibility will remain strong. I also believe there will be increased demand for creators who understand both the technical side of media production and the business objectives behind the content.

For Speaking From the Lens, that trend is exciting because it aligns with what we already do—helping clients capture emotion, tell meaningful stories, and extend the impact of their message beyond the room.
