Meet Heaven Hall of Virginia

Today we’d like to introduce you to Heaven Hall.

Hi Heaven, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I grew up in a very small town in Virginia called Caroline County. My house was very musical in an 80s way. I used to dance on my desk and bed to Bon Jovi and the Bangles while playing video games like Sonic. In school, I was the artsy emo anime kid that loved to sing. I used to come home everyday in middle school to practice to all of my Evanescence, Kelly Clarkson, and Avril Lavigne CDs. We couldn’t afford anything crazy like voice lessons or anything, so I made it this huge goal to develop my voice myself while being in chorus and band, teaching myself music in any way I could. I took it so seriously that I started writing songs in high school and singing covers to post on my Instagram. I then found myself going to my high school friend’s studio and started recording music to release.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
When I graduated a little after from high school in 2020, I moved to Northern Virginia when I had just turned 19, which was insanely scary, but I had always wanted to hit the ground running when I was done with school because I had always known that there was something much bigger waiting for me. I hadn’t lived in a dorm yet since COVID had turned everything upside down, so I got an apartment with friends. I knew no one besides the few friends from college. I felt so small in a whole new area. I was so nervous to drive anywhere as someone from the country being thrown into the city. Nonetheless, I threw myself out into the wild and made connections with studios, artists, and any opportunities that I felt were nearby. I used to walk around Arlington and DC by myself to hang up various QR codes to my Spotify and began performing over the Summer.

It was extremely difficult trying to work on my music while being a full time student. I started losing confidence and eventually took a break from the area to come back home, dropping to just part time online in college. I had endured so much noise from other people’s opinions and personal situations that my creativity was completely clouded. Things felt stagnant! But I was still writing and executing, which was quietly draining me. When I came back home, I stayed in Fredericksburg, VA with my lovely grandparents. I would only work nights so I could stay up and work on my music. I had always been so nervous to post about my music because I was afraid of judgement from those who knew me at school, but one night, I just finally stopped caring and just did the thing. I made it a goal to post every single day on Instagram and I didn’t care about who engaged or not. Eventually, I started seeing growth in followers and developed a small fanbase. I started performing like crazy in the Fredericksburg area to where I was starting to get paid here and there and even had the chance to sing for a Fred Nats baseball game!

Coming back to Northern Virginia, I find myself in a flow state with my creativity and art and the business behind it all. I’ve found complete harmony between my musical creativity and school, all while posting on social media and understanding who I am as an artist within the marketing and creative aspect.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
With intense 80s and hard rock/electronic upbringing, Heaven remains limitless, standing in a genre-bending sound that she has claimed, varying from relatable, songwriting pop ballads like “Abbie” and emotional grunge pieces like “Water” to upbeat sounds like “Sorority Moonlight”, “Eye Candy”, and “Negative Degrees”

Heaven is on her way to remaining consistent in releasing music and does not plan to stop, with her new upcoming experimental drum and bass sequel of “Negative Degrees”: “Underground Tides” coming out July 17th.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
The role of luck is endless when you believe in yourself. Things are meant to be and things happen for a reason. Hard work is the act of putting action towards your manifestations, but in a delusional way. Being lucky is the outcome of the many times that you decided to bet on yourself, even if things were at odds.
