Today we’d like to introduce you to Tishauna Brevard.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started this business as a young mom who realized I didn’t want to spend all my time working and miss the precious moments with my child. At the same time, I knew I wanted to be a provider—to build a life where I could take care of my family while still being present.
Like many women, I began to lose myself. Between working full-time, going to school, and adjusting to motherhood, I stopped making time for me. Friends and family would comment on how I wasn’t keeping myself up anymore, and eventually, I started noticing the same thing in other women—at the doctor’s office, at daycare, and everywhere I went. We were all pouring into everyone else while neglecting ourselves.
I knew something had to change.
I began researching vendors, testing products, and creating strategies to help women look and feel their best without spending hours in a salon. I couldn’t afford frequent salon visits, and more importantly, I simply didn’t have the time. I wanted a solution that fit the reality of busy women’s lives.
That’s how Moolalah Hair Extensions was born—a brand built on confidence, convenience, and empowerment.
I missed out on too many events, opportunities, and special moments simply because my hair wasn’t done. I never wanted another woman to experience that feeling. Every woman deserves to show up feeling beautiful, confident, and ready, no matter how busy life gets.
As women, we often put everyone else first. Moolalah Hair Extensions was created so you don’t have to choose between taking care of yourself and taking care of your family. At Moolalah Hair Extensions, our mission is to empower individuals to embrace their unique beauty, elevate their confidence, and express their personal style through our premium luxury hair extension collection. We are committed to delivering exceptional quality, unmatched durability, and versatile products that create effortless convenience for our clients’ everyday lifestyles. More than providing hair, we curate a luxury experience designed to help every client look, feel, and step into the next level of themselves with confidence, sophistication, and excellence.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Building this business was never easy. As technology evolved, competition increased, and prices continued to rise, I faced challenge after challenge. I paid for three different websites before finally creating one that truly represented my vision. I received bad batches of hair that I refused to sell because I would never compromise on quality. I dealt with customers disputing charges even after receiving exceptional products and service.
There were seasons when life became so overwhelming that I couldn’t market my business the way I wanted to. Sales slowed, and there were years when I seriously questioned whether I should keep going or simply cut my losses.
Then came another challenge—knowing I needed help but being afraid to trust someone else with my vision. Moolalah isn’t just a business; it’s my baby. It’s something I’m building to leave behind for my children. Every decision, every setback, and every victory has been part of creating a legacy.
Entrepreneurship isn’t always glamorous. There are sleepless nights, disappointments, sacrifices, and moments when you wonder if all your hard work is worth it. But every obstacle taught me resilience. Every setback strengthened my faith. Every challenge reminded me why I started.
Today, I can confidently say that hard work truly does pay off. If you stay committed to your vision, refuse to give up, and continue showing up even when no one is watching, the rewards will come. My journey is proof that success isn’t built overnight—it’s built through consistency, perseverance, and believing in yourself when things get hard.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Beyond entrepreneurship, my passion has always been serving others.
I am a Qualified Mental Health Professional currently pursuing my Master of Social Work (MSW) to become a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW). I am also working toward earning my Certified Substance Abuse Counselor (CSAC) credential. In my role as a crisis responder, I have the privilege of helping individuals and families navigate some of the most difficult moments of their lives.
In 2025, I was honored to receive Old Dominion University’s 40 Under 40 Award, along with Volunteer of the Year for my dedication to serving my community. While I am grateful for these recognitions, the accomplishment I am most proud of is my resilience.
Life has tested me in ways I never imagined.
I was a full-time caregiver for my father until his passing in late 2021. Just one year later, on the anniversary of his passing, my middle daughter was fighting for her life at Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters (CHKD). Doctors prepared us for the possibility that she wouldn’t survive. As a mother, there are no words to describe that kind of heartbreak, fear, or uncertainty. But by God’s grace, she is here today.
Now, she stands beside me helping with Moolalah Hair Extensions and dreams of becoming a cosmetologist. One day, she hopes to take over the very business I built. Watching her grow, heal, and discover her own passion reminds me why I never gave up.
During those same years, I was raising my children, managing five facilities, growing my business, and pursuing my education. There were countless sleepless nights and days when I didn’t know whether I was coming or going. Still, I remained determined to provide for my family and build a future they could be proud of.
Then, just two weeks into my first semester of graduate school, my home caught on fire. Many of my business products were damaged, but I refused to let that setback define me. Shortly afterward, I was involved in a car accident. Through every obstacle, I chose perseverance over defeat.
More than anything, I wanted my children to see that life’s hardships don’t have the final say. No matter what happens, we keep moving forward. We stay grateful for the little things, trust God’s plan, and never allow our circumstances to steal our purpose.
My faith has carried me through every season. God has always made a way, even when I couldn’t see one. Because I have been blessed through so many difficult moments, I feel called to give back. Whether it’s through my work in mental health, serving my community, mentoring women, or building Moolalah Hair Extensions, I want my life to be an example that resilience, faith, and perseverance can overcome even the hardest seasons.
My journey has taught me that resilience isn’t about never falling—it’s about rising every single time you do. The legacy I’m building isn’t just a business. It’s one of faith, service, perseverance, and purpose. It’s a legacy for my children to carry forward, and a reminder to every woman that no matter what life throws your way, you can still stand, still believe, and still become everything God has called you to be.
What matters most to you? Why?
Above all, what matters most to me is my family.
Everything I do is for my three little people. My greatest purpose is to prepare them for the future, teach them resilience, and ensure they have every opportunity to succeed. I want them to know that with faith, hard work, and determination, they can overcome anything life places in their path.
My parents poured so much love, wisdom, and sacrifice into raising me. They gave me the foundation that has carried me through every challenge I’ve faced. Being able to care for my father until his passing was one of the greatest honors of my life, and I hope to one day care for my mother with that same love, dignity, and devotion. It is my way of giving back to the people who gave me everything.
Beyond my family, my purpose extends to my community. Whether through my work in mental health, volunteering, mentoring, or building Moolalah Hair Extensions, I want my life to make a difference. Success has never been just about financial gain for me. It has always been about creating opportunities, inspiring other women to believe in themselves, and showing that resilience, faith, and service can change lives.
If my journey inspires just one person to keep going when life gets hard, then every obstacle I’ve faced has been worth it.
At the end of the day, I don’t want my legacy to simply be remembered as someone who built a successful business. I want to be remembered as a woman of faith who loved deeply, served others selflessly, strengthened her community, and built a legacy that will continue through her children for generations to come.
