Today we’d like to introduce you to Seth Chambers.
Hi Seth, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I got a summer internship at a Virginia winery in 2006. Since then I graduated with a bachelors in Life Sciences with a concentration in Organic Chemistry from Penn State in 2007. Received my Enology Certificate from WSU in 2011. I have been managing the wine production at The Winery at La Grange since 2016.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Operating a farm winery can be very challenging. Especially with the changing markets; younger generations drinking less. Being a hospitality focused industry in an ever growing digital world. Climate change rapidly changing how we farm.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a rather hands off styled winemaker. I try not to focus on what I want from the grapes, more as what they can offer and focus on those attributes. On site, we grow Petit Manseng and Petit Verdot. Both of these wines have recently won recognition, as well as Virginia being the best wine region in the world to grow these two grapes. Two years in a row our Petit Manseng won a spot among the 12 best wines in Virginia. I am very proud of that, as well as the future of Petit Manseng in virginia.
