Conversations with Lisa Antus

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Antus.

Hi Lisa, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I began my journey in tax preparation while my husband was serving in the military. At the time, I started helping fellow military personnel with their tax returns, and that experience became the foundation of my career. There was a real need for clarity and support, and I quickly saw how much of a difference it made when someone could finally understand their financial situation without stress or confusion. The military community still holds a special place in my heart today.

What started as helping a small group of service members gradually evolved into a full career in tax, bookkeeping, payroll, and advisory services. Over the years, I expanded my expertise and earned my QuickBooks Advanced ProAdvisor certification, QuickBooks Payroll Certification, IRS Registered Tax Return Preparer designation, and my Tax Advisory Certification.

As my experience grew, so did my perspective. I moved beyond tax preparation alone and into a more strategic advisory role, focusing on helping clients plan ahead, structure their finances properly, and make informed decisions throughout the year, not just during tax season.

Today, I lead a tax and advisory practice that blends technical knowledge with practical, real-world guidance. My goal is simple: to make the financial side of life and business clearer, more manageable, and more empowering for every client I work with.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It hasn’t been a completely smooth road. Like most entrepreneurs, I had to figure things out as I went.

One of the biggest challenges was learning how to move from just doing tax work to actually running a business building systems, structuring services, and learning how to operate more strategically instead of just reacting to client needs during tax season.

As my client base grew, capacity became another challenge. I had to get intentional about how I delivered services, put the right systems in place, and make sure clients still got a high level of care without everything depending on me doing it manually.

And of course, there were the normal growing pains, learning how to position myself, stepping fully into my value, and building confidence in a competitive space.

But every challenge helped me shift from just “doing taxes” to building something more structured and impactful. That’s really what shaped how I run my practice today.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I work in tax preparation, bookkeeping, payroll, and tax advisory, mainly supporting W-2 earners and small business owners. Over time, I’ve shifted from just preparing tax returns to taking a more advisory approach helping clients understand the bigger picture and make better financial decisions year-round, not just during tax season.

What I specialize in is breaking down complex tax situations into something clear and usable. I don’t just hand clients numbers I make sure they actually understand what’s going on and what to do with it.

I’m known for being very hands-on, detail oriented, and practical. Clients usually come to me because they want things explained in a way that finally makes sense.

What I’m most proud of is building a practice that’s moved beyond compliance into real strategy and support. That shift has allowed me to create more impact and help clients feel more confident and in control of their finances.

What sets me apart is that I keep things simple and real. No overcomplication just clear guidance, strong technical knowledge, and a focus on what actually helps the client move forward

What matters most to you?
What matters most to me is helping people feel confident and in control of their finances. A lot of stress in life comes from uncertainty around money, especially taxes, and I’ve seen how much changes for someone when things finally make sense.

That’s why I focus on clarity and education in my work. It’s not just about filing returns or keeping books, it’s about giving people the understanding they need to make better decisions and feel less overwhelmed.

At the end of the day, if a client walks away feeling more informed, more prepared, and less stressed than when they came to me, that’s what matters most to me.
