Today we’d like to introduce you to Oscar Mendez.
Hi Oscar, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My journey started with a simple passion: helping small businesses succeed online. I’ve always been drawn to creativity, technology, and problem-solving, and I realized early on that many small business owners had incredible products and services but struggled to establish a professional online presence. I wanted to change that.
I founded The Kreativs with the vision of making high-quality website design, branding, and digital marketing accessible to businesses of all sizes—not just companies with large marketing budgets. In the beginning, I wore every hat imaginable, from web designer and developer to marketer, customer support, and project manager. Every project became an opportunity to learn, improve, and build lasting relationships with clients.
Over the years, The Kreativs has grown from a small startup into a full-service digital marketing agency serving businesses across the United States and internationally. We’ve had the privilege of working with companies in industries ranging from construction and healthcare to education, logistics, hospitality, and e-commerce. Along the way, we’ve also earned recognition for our design work, which has been incredibly rewarding.
What I’m most proud of isn’t just the growth of the company—it’s the trust we’ve built with our clients. Many have been with us for years, and seeing their businesses grow because of the work we’ve done together is what motivates me every day.
Today, my focus is continuing to innovate by combining great design with SEO, automation, and AI-powered solutions to help businesses operate more efficiently and reach more customers. As a digital marketing agency in Virginia, we’re committed to helping businesses strengthen their online presence through strategic website design, branding, search engine optimization, and data-driven marketing solutions. At the end of the day, The Kreativs has always been about partnership. Our motto, “We Design Together,” reflects the belief that the best results come from collaborating closely with our clients and helping bring their vision to life.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Like many marketing businesses, one of the biggest challenges has been educating potential clients about the value of marketing and digital services. Many business owners, especially startups, are working with limited budgets, so, understandably, they want to spend as little as possible. The challenge is helping them see that a website, branding, SEO, or digital marketing isn’t just another expense—it’s an investment in the future of their business.
I’ve learned that there’s a direct relationship between risk and reward. If you’re only willing to make the smallest investment possible, you also have to adjust your expectations for the results. Sustainable growth requires commitment, consistency, and patience.
I often compare marketing to planting a seed. You don’t plant it today and expect a full-grown tree tomorrow. It needs the right environment, regular care, time, and, most importantly, patience. Every piece of content, every SEO improvement, every advertising campaign, and every customer interaction contributes to that long-term growth. Some businesses see quick wins, but building a strong brand that consistently generates leads doesn’t happen overnight.
There are certainly tools that can accelerate growth, whether it’s paid advertising, AI automation, SEO strategies, or targeted marketing campaigns. However, those tools need to be used strategically. Without a clear plan, it’s easy to overspend on marketing without seeing meaningful results. Nobody wants to waste their hard-earned money, and that’s why I focus on creating realistic strategies that maximize every dollar my clients invest.
Another challenge has been balancing growth while maintaining the personalized service that The Kreativs is known for. As the company has expanded, I’ve remained committed to building genuine relationships with clients instead of treating them like just another project. That means being transparent, setting realistic expectations, and sometimes even advising a client not to spend money on something they don’t actually need.
Looking back, every challenge has been an opportunity to learn. It’s taught me that success isn’t about selling the most expensive solution—it’s about earning trust, delivering measurable value, and helping businesses grow at a pace that’s sustainable for them. Those lessons have shaped not only how I run my business but also how I serve every client who puts their trust in The Kreativs.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
At The Kreativs, we believe that every business—regardless of its size or budget—deserves the opportunity to build a strong, professional online presence. Our mission is simple: help businesses grow through strategic design, digital marketing, and technology while providing the personalized support that many agencies have lost along the way.
We specialize in website design, branding, search engine optimization (SEO), digital marketing, e-commerce development, content creation, AI automation, and business consulting. While many agencies focus on delivering a website and moving on to the next project, we see ourselves as long-term partners in our clients’ success. We don’t just build websites—we build digital foundations that help businesses attract customers, establish credibility, and continue growing for years to come.
One of the things that truly sets us apart is our relationship-first approach. We intentionally work closely with each client, taking the time to understand their business, their goals, and the challenges they’re facing. There isn’t a one-size-fits-all strategy because every business has a unique story to tell. Our company motto, “We Design Together,” reflects that philosophy. Collaboration isn’t just part of our process—it’s the foundation of everything we do.
Another area we’re passionate about is helping startups and small businesses make smart decisions with their marketing budgets. Too often, business owners are sold expensive services they don’t actually need. We take a different approach by educating our clients, creating realistic growth plans, and focusing on strategies that provide long-term value instead of short-term hype. Our goal isn’t simply to sell services—it’s to help businesses invest wisely and grow sustainably.
As technology continues to evolve, we’ve also embraced AI and automation to help businesses become more efficient. By combining creative design with automation, SEO, and data-driven marketing, we’re able to help our clients save time, improve customer experiences, and generate better results without unnecessary spending.
What I’m most proud of isn’t a particular website or award—it’s the trust we’ve earned from our clients. Many of our projects come through referrals because people know we’re honest, transparent, and genuinely invested in their success. That means more to us than any recognition.
Ultimately, I want readers to know that The Kreativs is more than a digital marketing agency in VA. We’re a growth partner. Whether someone is launching their very first business or looking to take an established company to the next level, we’re committed to providing creative solutions, practical strategies, and ongoing support every step of the way. When our clients succeed, we succeed—and that’s the culture we’ve built from day one.
We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
One thing that often surprises people is that I’m constantly learning. Even after years of building websites, developing marketing strategies, and helping businesses grow, I still dedicate time every so often to learn new technologies, AI tools, automation, SEO trends, and design techniques. The digital world changes so quickly that I believe if you’re not learning, you’re falling behind.
Another surprise is that I don’t see myself as a salesperson. Many people assume running a marketing agency means convincing people to buy as many services as possible, but that’s never been my approach. I spend more time educating clients than selling to them. In fact, there have been many occasions where I’ve recommended a smaller package or advised someone to wait before investing because it simply wasn’t the right time for their business. I’d rather earn someone’s trust and build a long-term relationship than make a quick sale.
People also don’t realize how much strategy happens behind every project. A website isn’t just about making something look good. Every color, layout, call-to-action, page structure, and SEO decision is made with a purpose. Before I even begin designing, I’m thinking about the customer’s journey, how visitors will interact with the site, and what will ultimately help convert them into paying customers.
Outside of work, I enjoy traveling and hiking because they help me disconnect from technology and reset creatively. Some of my best ideas have come while exploring a new place or walking a trail. Those experiences remind me that creativity isn’t something that only happens behind a computer screen—sometimes you have to step away to see things from a different perspective.
Perhaps the biggest surprise is that I genuinely celebrate my clients’ successes as if they were my own. Whether it’s a startup landing its first major customer, a local business expanding to a second location, or an established company reaching record sales, those milestones are incredibly rewarding because I know we played a part in helping them get there.
At the end of the day, I don’t measure success by the number of websites we’ve built or campaigns we’ve launched. I measure it by the businesses we’ve helped grow, the relationships we’ve built, and the trust we’ve earned along the way. That’s what continues to motivate us to keep doing what we know best.
