Today we’d like to introduce you to Logan Hale.
Hi Logan, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Photography has been a part of my life since high school, but I never imagined it would become the career I love today. My 9th and 10th grade year I took a photography class. In 9th grade I had a point and shoot camera, which didn’t take very good photos but I liked it; however, it broke during the summer. My mom gave me her DSLR camera for 10th grade; and the first time I looked at the images I created with it, something just clicked. I still remember that feeling, it completely changed how I saw photography and ultimately changed the direction of my life. When it was time to decide what I was doing after high school I knew I wanted to own my own business as a photographer. After I graduated high school I went to Virginia Western Community College where I got two associate’s degrees, one in liberal arts – fine arts and the other in business management. Afterwards I transferred to JMU where I got my bachelors degree in Fine art concentration in photography. I then got a job as a photographer for CBS19 News in Charlottesville, Virginia. Working in news taught me how to think quickly, anticipate meaningful moments, and tell authentic stories through my work. At the same time, I began building Logan M. Hale Photography from the ground up, turning a lifelong passion into the business I had always dreamed of owning. I’m a firm believer that learning never stops. I’m a proud member of the Virginia Professional Photographers Association (VPPA), where I have the opportunity to learn from talented photographers across the state. I also travel to workshops around the country to continue refining my craft, exploring new techniques, and finding fresh inspiration. I’m currently getting more involved in the wedding industry scene where I have been a vendor for a couple of bridal shows and have been doing weddings and engagement photos.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t been a smooth ride. I’ve dealt with being scammed, thinking a company is a reputable business and turned out that they weren’t as reputable as I originally thought. I’ve dealt with having set backs that have deterred me from my original goal and I had to get myself back on track. I’ve had financial worries about how I should be advertising and/or what I should be investing into for my business. I’ve had the mental toll of feeling like a failure and not being good enough that I had to overcome and push through. I’m sure that I will face even more challenges in the future but striving for my dreams and goals helps me overcome any obstacle in my path.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’ve always had a creative and artist perspective. I’m mostly known for my photographs and how I capture the essence of what I am photographing and learn the people I photograph stories. I tell stories with my photographs and create works of art that people will enjoy for years to come. I photographed a bride last year and she told me that the photos I took of her are the first photos that she felt pretty in and that I captured the love that they have for each other. I photographed another couple for their engagement photos earlier this year and she told me that the photos brought tears to her eyes and that looking at them brings her back to the day we took those photos and the love and joy she had doing them. I pride myself on making sure that I capture the photographs that my clients are wanting and that they feel beautiful both internally and externally.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters most to me is knowing I’ve made a positive impact on someone’s life. Seeing the smiles on my clients’ faces when they look through their photos is one of the most rewarding parts of what I do. Every person has a unique story, and being trusted to preserve some of the most meaningful moments in their lives is a privilege I never take for granted. Knowing that I’ve helped capture memories they can look back on with joy for years to come is what inspires me every time I pick up my camera.
