Hi Janika, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My name is Janika Porterfield, and I’m the Founder and CEO of TippyToes & Cute-icles LLC™. I’m a licensed nail technician, nail educator, entrepreneur, and proud mother of two beautiful daughters.
What started as a passion for nails has grown into a mission to empower others through beauty, education, and entrepreneurship.
Like many small business owners, my journey wasn’t easy. I experienced personal challenges, including surviving domestic violence, going through a divorce, and rebuilding my life while raising my daughters.
There were times when I questioned whether I should keep going, but every obstacle became another reason to push harder. I wanted my girls to see that no matter what life throws at you, you can always start over and create something meaningful.
I officially launched TippyToes & Cute-icles LLC™ because I wanted to offer more than beautiful nails. I wanted to create confidence, opportunities, and multiple streams of income.
Today, my business includes luxury acrylic nail services, custom and ready-to-wear press-on nails, a Nail Academy where I teach others how to enter the beauty industry, and a growing retail brand that participates in vendor events throughout the community.
I’m also working toward bringing high-quality press-on nails to customers through innovative vending machines.
One thing my clients know about me is that I truly listen. I don’t believe beauty should be one-size-fits-all. I always say, “I do nails the way my clients ask.” Every set is customized to fit their personality and style because I want them to leave feeling confident and seen.
As my business continues to grow, my vision is to build a nationally recognized beauty brand that combines luxury nail services, education, retail products, and innovation.
More importantly, I hope my story encourages other women—especially single mothers and aspiring entrepreneurs—to believe that where you start does not determine where you can go. With faith, hard work, and consistency, it’s possible to build a life you’re proud of.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Absolutely not. Like many entrepreneurs, my journey has been filled with challenges, setbacks, and moments that tested my faith.
One of my biggest challenges was rebuilding my life while going through a divorce and healing from domestic violence. At the same time, I was raising my two daughters and working to build a business from the ground up.
There were days when finances were tight, business was slow, and I questioned whether everything I was sacrificing would eventually pay off.
Another challenge has been wearing so many hats. As a small business owner.
I’m the nail technician, educator, marketer, photographer, inventory manager, customer service representative, accountant, and CEO.
Balancing all of those responsibilities while making time for my family hasn’t always been easy.
I’ve also learned that entrepreneurship requires patience. There have been events that exceeded my expectations and others that didn’t go as planned.
I’ve invested in new ideas, taken calculated risks, and learned that every setback comes with a lesson. Instead of seeing obstacles as failures, I’ve chosen to view them as opportunities to grow, improve, and become more resilient.
Through it all, I’ve remained committed to my vision. Every challenge has strengthened my character and reminded me why I started.
My daughters are my greatest motivation. I want them to grow up knowing that hard work, perseverance, and faith can carry you through even the most difficult seasons.
Looking back, I wouldn’t change the journey. Those difficult moments shaped me into the business owner, mother, and woman I am today. If my story inspires even one person to keep going despite the obstacles they face, then every challenge has been worth it.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I don’t believe my success has come from luck. I believe it’s come from faith, hard work, and consistency.
Every opportunity I’ve received has been the result of showing up, learning from challenges, and refusing to give up.
Of course, I’ve had setbacks along the way, but I’ve learned that even the difficult moments can lead to new opportunities. I believe when you stay prepared and keep working, the right doors will open at the right time. 💜
