Today we’d like to introduce you to Nitika Achalam.
Hi Nitika, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
True Grit Farm & Flower grew from a core belief that a connection to one another, the beauty of the natural world, and recognition have a place in everyday life, not just special occasions.
Long before I became a flower farmer, I was practicing herbalism and growing medicinal plants. That work taught me to pay attention to the subtleties of what a plant requires to thrive and then how it is capable of supporting people and ecosystems. Over time, my gardens expanded beyond medicinal herbs to include native plants, fruiting branches, vines, specialty cut flowers, and other seasonal botanicals. What began as growing plants for wellness evolved into designing gatherings where people can slow down, engage their senses, and connect through shared experience.
Before launching the farm, I spent years working in roles centered around people development, facilitation, mindfulness, and creating environments where individuals and teams could thrive. Along the way, I became an educator, clinical herbalist, flower farmer, and floral designer. What fascinated me most was the way people respond when they’re invited to slow down, be present, and create together.
Flowers became the common thread.
Today, True Grit Farm & Flower blends agriculture, design, education, and human connection. We grow speciality cut, seasonal flowers and botanicals and transform them into experiences for workplaces, hospitality partners, retreats, community organizations, and special events.
When I’m designing an installation, facilitating a floral experience for a team, or harvesting botanicals that support herbal wellness offerings, my work is guided by the same question:
How do we help people feel more connected to themselves, each other, and the world around them?
Flowers and botanicals happen to be one of the most effective ways I’ve found to do that.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
One of the biggest challenges has been helping people understand that True Grit Farm & Flower doesn’t fit neatly into a single category.
When people hear “flower farm,” they often assume we simply sell bouquets. When they hear “floral designer,” they assume we only create flowers for events. While we certainly do both, the work extends much further.
My background spans herbalism, facilitation, wellness education, human resources, mindfulness and floral design. Those disciplines intersect in ways that aren’t always obvious at first glance, but they shape everything we do.
A floral workshop can strengthen team connection.
A botanical installation can influence how guests experience a space.
A bouquet can become a meaningful expression of appreciation and recognition.
Flowers and botanicals are often the entry point, but they’re rarely the entire story.
Over time, I’ve learned that part of my role is helping clients see the possibilities that emerge when the majesty of the natural world and the ways we gathering are brought together intentionally. Some of the most rewarding moments happen when organizations realize they’re not simply investing in flowers. They are investing in how their people feel as well as transferrable skills gained from the experience.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
At its core, our work is about creating environments where people feel connected.
We grow specialty cut flowers and botanicals and transform them into experiences, installations, memberships, workshops, and partnerships that help organizations strengthen relationships with employees, guests, clients, and communities.
Our farm focuses on seasonal flowers and botanicals grown with ecological stewardship in mind. We cultivate many dual-purpose plants that are both beautiful and beneficial, blending ornamental flowers with medicinal herbs, native plants, fruiting branches, vines, seed pods, and edible botanicals. That approach creates arrangements and experiences that feel layered, alive, and deeply connected to the landscape around us.
Our work generally falls into three areas:
Workplace Culture & Connection
We partner with organizations to bring seasonal beauty and meaningful experiences into the workplace through employee appreciation initiatives, leadership gatherings, team experiences, and culture-building programs designed to help people feel valued and connected.
Hospitality & Guest Experience
We collaborate with hospitality partners to create memorable guest experiences through floral installations, seasonal design, workshops, and botanical storytelling that help spaces feel welcoming, distinctive, and deeply rooted in a sense of place.
Special Events & Experiences
We design flowers for events where the goal extends beyond decoration. Within corporate gatherings, retreats, community events, and personal celebration, we use flowers and botanicals to create atmosphere and encourage meaningful interaction.
Everything begins with what we grow ourselves. By working seasonally and close to the source, we’re able to bring sustainability, authenticity, and awareness of our regional abundance into every project.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters most is helping people create genuine moments with each other and reconnect with nature in a meaningful way.
We live in a time when many people are overwhelmed, distracted, and disconnected from one another. I believe the work True Grit does by bringing nature to the places where people gather has an important role to play in helping cultivate healthy community.
Flowers and plants invite us to pause. They have the power to create conversations between strangers. Flowers hold space as we celebrate milestones, express gratitude, honor transitions, and mark every meaningful moment in life.
When I’m working with a leadership team, a boutique brand, a workshop participant, or family honoring a life well lived, I’m interested in creating an experience where persons feels seen, valued, and a deeper sense of kinship.
Each time True Grit Farm & Flower helps workplaces become more human centered, gatherings feel even more meaningful, and communities more integrated, then we are successfully doing the work we set out to do.
