Hi Ann, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I founded Veterinary Vision Specialists because I wanted to create the kind of specialty practice I believed in—one centered on exceptional patient care, strong relationships with referring veterinarians, and a positive, supportive workplace. Earlier in my career, I experienced a work environment that wasn’t aligned with those values, and it reinforced for me how important culture is to both employees and clients. Starting VVS gave me the opportunity to build a practice where people feel respected, work collaboratively, and are committed to providing outstanding ophthalmic care for every patient. That vision has guided the practice from the beginning.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Has it been a smooth road? Not at all—but it has been incredibly rewarding.
Like any business owner, I’ve faced my share of challenges. One of the biggest was having to start over after parting ways with a company I had partially owned. Building Veterinary Vision Specialists from the ground up meant earning the trust of referring veterinarians, establishing our reputation, assembling the right team, and growing the practice one patient at a time. None of that happened overnight.
More recently, I’ve been diagnosed with leukemia, which has brought a new set of personal and professional challenges. Rather than letting that slow us down, my team and I adapted quickly. We developed a telehealth system that allows me to continue caring for patients while I receive treatment, and we’ve brought in relief doctors to ensure our clients and referring veterinarians continue to receive the same high standard of care they’ve come to expect.
**Looking back, it certainly hasn’t been a smooth journey, but it has been an incredibly meaningful one. We’ve built this practice into something I’m deeply proud of. We’ve earned the trust of our community, established a wonderful reputation, and created a team that’s resilient, compassionate, and committed to excellence. Those challenges have only strengthened my appreciation for what we’ve built together.

Veterinary Vision Specialists was built with one mission in mind: to provide the highest level of specialty ophthalmic care while treating every patient, client, and referring veterinarian with compassion, respect, and transparency. We are a referral-based veterinary ophthalmology practice dedicated exclusively to diagnosing and treating diseases of the eye and vision in animals. From advanced diagnostics and microsurgery to emergency eye care and long-term disease management, our focus is preserving vision, relieving pain, and improving quality of life.
What sets us apart is our philosophy of care. We recognize that when clients come to us, they’re often frightened and facing unexpected news about a beloved pet. We take the time to educate families, explain every option, and ensure they feel supported throughout the process. Most recently, when I was diagnosed with leukemia, our team quickly implemented a telemedicine system that allows me to continue consulting with clients and supporting patient care while receiving treatment. It reflects the resilience of our team and our unwavering commitment to our patients, no matter the circumstances.
Brand-wise, I’m most proud that Veterinary Vision Specialists has become known for clinical excellence, integrity, and genuine compassion. We have built a reputation based on trust—not only because of the medicine we practice, but because of how we make people feel. Every decision we make is centered on doing what’s best for the patient while providing exceptional service to the families and veterinarians who entrust us with their care.
At the end of the day, Veterinary Vision Specialists is more than a specialty practice. It’s a team of people who are passionate about restoring sight, relieving pain, and strengthening the human-animal bond. That commitment is the foundation of our brand, and it’s what we hope every client remembers long after they leave our hospital.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
What I like best about our city is the sense of community. It’s a place where people genuinely care about one another, and there’s a strong network of veterinarians, pet owners, and local businesses that support each other. I’ve been fortunate to build meaningful relationships with referring veterinarians and clients who trust us with their pets, and that’s something I never take for granted. I also appreciate that it’s a growing community that values high-quality specialty care, allowing practices like Veterinary Vision Specialists to make a real difference.
If I had to pick one thing I like least, it would probably be the traffic. As the area has grown, getting across town has become more time-consuming than it used to be. But in many ways, that’s a reflection of a thriving and expanding community, so it’s a small tradeoff for all the positives that come with living and working here.
