Hi Chelsea, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Meet Chelsea Anderson
Passion. Purpose. Resilience.
Ever since I was a little girl, I always knew I wanted to work with animals and be the voice they did not have. My family rarely took our pets to the vet unless something was wrong, let alone a groomer. I knew nothing about pet grooming until I started working at an animal hospital when I turned 18.
There, I met Jessica, the pet groomer at the hospital. I told her I was interested in learning the trade because I wanted to help pets feel and look their best. She was one of the many people who believed in me and encouraged me along the way.
Despite their support, I left the animal hospital and accepted a position at an amazing grooming salon 45 minutes from home. I worked there six days a week, starting as a receptionist before working my way up to bather and eventually becoming a groomer.
Less than three years later, my life took a devastating turn as I fell into addiction. After overdosing and spending seven days on life support, I made the decision to fight for the life I knew I was capable of living.
Fast forward to 2026—I am now over six years sober, the proud owner of a successful grooming business with seven incredible employees and more than 1,000 amazing clients. Every day, I’m grateful for the opportunity to help pets feel their very best, and I truly wouldn’t have it any other way.
When I’m not in the salon, I enjoy spending time with my family while traveling and competing in grooming competitions whenever I can.
I am living proof that you can accomplish anything with dedication, perseverance, and belief in yourself.

What interested you about becoming a dog groomer?
I’ve always loved both animals and creativity. I started as a dog walker before working in an animal hospital, where I discovered grooming. That’s when I realized I could combine my passion for helping pets with my artistic side.

Do you have a favorite breed to groom? If so, why?
Absolutely! I love grooming Poodles and Bichons. Their coats allow for so much creativity, and every groom is an opportunity to create something beautiful.

What is your favorite thing about being a groomer?
Helping pets feel their very best while expressing my creativity through grooming and competing.

What is the best piece of grooming advice you’ve ever received?
Not every pet will allow you to groom them the way you envision. Learn to work with each pet instead of against them. Every dog and every cat is different, and understanding their individual needs is what makes a great groomer.

What would you say to someone interested in becoming a groomer?
Do it! If you have passion, patience, and goals, you can absolutely succeed. You only get one life, and you’ll never know what you’re capable of unless you take the chance.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Throughout my life, I have faced many obstacles that have shaped who I am today. I battled addiction and have remained committed to my sobriety, a journey that taught me resilience, accountability, and the importance of never giving up. I also experienced a serious medical crisis that required dialysis, time on life support, and months of physical and emotional recovery. Those experiences gave me a deep appreciation for life and strengthened my determination to keep moving forward, even during the hardest moments.
Professionally, I built my pet grooming business from the ground up. Like many small business owners, I’ve navigated financial challenges, staffing issues, long hours, and the constant responsibility of providing exceptional care for both pets and their owners. Every setback has pushed me to become a stronger leader and business owner.
One of the greatest challenges of my life came when I developed severe preeclampsia during pregnancy, leading to an emergency C-section at just 27 weeks. My daughter, Savannah, spent months in the NICU, and our family faced uncertainty, fear, and countless medical appointments. Learning to care for a premature baby with specialized feeding needs has required patience, advocacy, and strength that I never knew I had.
While these experiences have been incredibly difficult, they have also taught me perseverance, compassion, and gratitude. They have reinforced my belief that even in life’s hardest moments, there is always hope. Today, I am proud not only of what I have overcome but of the person those challenges have helped me become. They continue to inspire how I lead my business, care for others, and approach each new chapter of my life.
