Hi Farrukh, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
From an early stage, I was drawn to collecting found objects and visiting historic places. I spent time observing their materials, documenting their details, and listening to the stories associated with them. This journey began intuitively, emerging naturally from my experiences and surroundings.
Over time, I became more deeply immersed in the nature of these places and objects. This engagement has opened multiple directions of inquiry and layers of meaning for me. Through my own understanding and perception, I explore and interpret the traces of history embedded within landscapes, materials, and fragments of the past.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Developing my work while reflecting on the past is never easy. I frequently wonder how I compare to the information that history provides. I use my creativity and intuition to navigate these difficulties instead of looking for certain answers. The route can be bumpy and fragmented at times, or it can unroll smoothly. This ambiguity turns becomes a crucial component of my work, fostering an environment of curiosity that constantly propels my research.

Through drawing, collecting found objects, and documenting places, I seek to uncover traces of history embedded within the landscape. My practice moves between artistic inquiry and archaeological investigation, exploring the relationship between memory, place, and time. Looking into the past while imagining possible futures has become a fundamental part of my process. As an artist, I feel privileged to examine the ways our lives, identities, and environments continue to evolve. Rather than offering definitive answers, I hope my work invites viewers to reflect, make their own connections, and develop their own interpretations of the histories and experiences it evokes.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
I firmly believe in the process rather than the result. In my experience, networking and finding a mentor are changing over time since we are constantly evolving. We take note of our surroundings and draw connections between them and our history, which aids in our quest for direction. Living in the now, reflecting on the past, and seeing the future have all worked well for me.
