Today we’d like to introduce you to Linnea McGaw.
Hi Linnea, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started creating stained glass after I took a class in Denver in 2017. My dad was always the inspiration to learn. He had done stained glass in his adult years. After getting Parkinson’s disease it severely inhibited him from creating. It’s been history for me ever since. My business and art is done out of my garage. It’s a space I get to step out of my normal 9-5, day to day routine (which is also fruitful in its own regards) and into a different world; one where I get to sit and create, make mistakes while also growing in my artistic style. It’s my favorite place in my house. Stained glass an art form that you can continuously refine and try new processes.
I love the process from start to finish, but the end result of the shadows a stained glass piece gives in the sunlight gives me ALL the joy!
I love continuing to grow in my craft and through the art community!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road in my business has been perfect in its own timing. My family and business are God centered and he has provided me with steady work, which I’ve been grateful! It’s been such a blessing to create, while also working and having a family. I’ve learned a few things that were tough, in moment, it’s been an experience to grow and move forward. I have a corporate career that I enjoy but not being able to create full time is hard. When I have a few projects on my work bench, I really have to prioritize my time well to meet the deadlines I set to complete.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I do stained glass art pieces. Most of my pieces are meant to hang in windows or ornaments (during Christmas) for a tree. I also do panels for cabinets or small door openings. I specialize in glass more specifically in the Tiffany method, which uses copper foil, however the traditional leaded technique is something I’ve also learned.
I create my own designs from scratch and then pick the glass based on the vision from my clients!
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
What makes this business special for me is in my commission work where I hear the most fascinating stories about people and their lives. There have been some really incredible stories I have the honor of sharing, through my stained glass pieces; anything from wedding gifts, to reproductions of windows in an old childhood home.. it’s all super special. I love creating but my drive isn’t to mass produce beautiful glass pieces, it’s been a blessing to connect with people during the process!
