I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has been tough road but worth it. I wouldn’t change anything because it helped build the wisdom to keep evolving. When you are from a small town people often think that they have you figured out. The challenge is knowing acceptance isn’t needed but you want to be heard so you plan accordingly. I’ve had success nationally and internationally but home is also important No one likes a hometown prophet and some people who’ve already grown up around me also think they have me figured out already. Let’s not forget that I also live in a town that is top ten most segregated in the country. It is sad that the phone really rings just in February and Juneteenth when I have something unique to give in all seasons The challenge is people wanting you to dwell in the box that best serves them while breaking out of your own box internally. Music gives me a chance to shed skin and create opportunities for people to encounter my layers. I realize I am intended for who I am intended for and I must let God do the rest. Lately. I’ve been a caretaker for my Mother and trying to balance both my career and making sure that she has what she needs.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Recording Artist, Radio Show Host, Writer, Slam Poet, and Mental Health Professional Activities Technician
Any big plans?
I am finishing up my book called “Soar Subjects” which is prose and poetry about the roads I’ve traveled and healed from. I’ve also released a single from my 4th studio album “Electric Blue Café” with L.A. Super-Producer Uncle Ace Ha. This will blend HIP-HOP, Jazz, Funk, and Spoken Word. The Single “Don’t Matter” Has a dope jazzy feel. The Music video shot and directed by Dan Mirolli, written by Me and co-written by Jenna Francis Gianni was a fun speak easy vibe (.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yIHv4BUy4sM&list=RDyIHv4BUy4sM&start_radio=1) . I also host two prominent radio shows one called “The Hip-Hop Lab” on www.OutWorldFleetRadio.com and “The Hip-Hop” Lab”: Earshot on www.WithoutWarning Radio.com. Both shows focus on a deep dive on Hip-Hop artist that are under the radar and need to be pushed to the forefront. I’ve been thankful to have great support from my team, Family, and Friends. I couldn’t make moves without the stay downs. You can also check out my music streaming on all platforms.
