Rising Stars: Meet Madison Cameron of Virginia

Today we’d like to introduce you to Madison Cameron.

Hi Madison, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My journey into photography started in 2013, shortly after my daughter was born. What began as a hobby quickly turned into something I couldn’t put down! I had always been interested in the wedding world—even back in high school, I was experimenting with floral design, and then baking—so I guess you could say I was destined to find my way into the industry somehow.

After trying a few different things, photography was the one that stuck. I fell in love with not only taking beautiful photos, but with the people, stories, and memories behind them. In 2018, I took the leap and officially founded Images by Madison LLC, pursuing photography full time.

Since then, this little hobby has grown into so much more than I ever imagined. In 2020, I opened my studio, allowing me to expand into one of my favorite areas of photography: posed newborn photography. Today, I specialize in creating beautiful, timeless images for families, from those tiny newborn days to birthdays, milestones, and everything in between, while also capturing one of life’s biggest celebrations—weddings.

At the heart of my business is the belief that photography is about more than just pretty pictures. It’s about freezing a moment in time, building genuine, lifelong connections with my clients, and being there to document their stories as they grow and change.

What started with a camera and a new-mom hobby has grown into a career I truly love—and I’m incredibly grateful that I get to call this my job. And honestly, I’m pretty sure 2013-me had no idea where that little hobby would take her!

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It was a smooth road stepping into photography and establishing the relationships with my clients. I was always motivated by walking alongside my clients through their life’s milestones, preserving their memories and cheering them on! I have clients I have been photographing for 10+ years and it has been such a privilege to watch them grow through life.
While I wouldn’t necessarily call them struggles, I have had to take big leaps of faith within my journey through photography. Transitioning my passion for photography into a full time business was nerve wracking, and then again when signing the lease for my studio. However, with the support of my husband and family, I haven’t looked back! It was the best decision I ever made.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a portrait and wedding photographer who specializes in posed newborn photography, weddings, and capturing all of life’s little and big milestones. My goal is to create images that are beautiful and timeless, but also meaningful—photos that bring you right back to how that moment felt years down the road.

I’m probably best known for my newborn work and for building long-term relationships with my clients. I love when a couple comes to me for their engagement session and then continues coming back for their wedding, maternity session, newborn session and as their little ones grow, whether it’s cake smashes, family sessions, or other milestones. Getting to watch those families grow through my camera is one of the most rewarding parts of what I do.

What I’m most proud of is the business and community I’ve built from what started as a hobby after my daughter was born. I founded Images by Madison LLC in 2018 and I’m incredibly proud that I’ve been able to turn something I love into a career centered around people and their stories.

I think what sets me apart is that I’m not just there to take pictures and send you on your way. I genuinely care about the people in front of my camera. I want my clients to feel comfortable, have fun, and know that I’m invested in preserving their memories—not just for today, but for all the years to come. I love creating images that feel polished and timeless while still capturing the personality and connection that make each family, couple, or wedding unique.

At the end of the day, I’m a photographer because I love people, I love stories, and I love getting to freeze the moments that go by far too quickly. And getting to do that for the same families throughout different stages of their lives? That’s the really special part.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Growing up, I was always running barefoot through the woods finding whimsy in the nature around me. You could find me climbing trees, exploring the plants and animals around me. Not much has changed there!
I also have always been a very creative individual and was constantly looking for an outlet to express that. Going all the way back, I found a love for painting after spending many childhood summers with my grandparents. My grandmother was an incredible painter and shared that with me growing up. I used all different mediums including oil, acrylic and watercolor.
