Today we’d like to introduce you to Shaquahia Biggs.
Hi Shaquahia , so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Hello! My name is Shaquahia Biggs. I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Virginia and I own Comfort Counseling, LLC. A private practice that’s supports women’s mental health and trauma recovery. I started my practice in 2023 due to noticing a gap of providers that both look like me and provide perinatal care to better support black women. Today, I aim to continue serving the identified population while including consulting to expand my reach toward more people.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Honestly, no. It has been a real learning curve. Building a private practice with specialties meant I had to become a business owner almost overnight, without ever being trained for that in grad school. Some of the biggest struggles were, learning the business side from scratch, building referral relationships and trust in a niche that requires real specialization, managing the shift from ‘just seeing clients’ to running operations, finances, and a small team, and more recently, expanding into consulting through Triple Bloom Consultants meant learning how to conform my clinical skills into adaptable settings.
But each of those challenges pushed me to get genuinely interested in the business and efficiency side of things, which has become almost as engaging to me as the clinical work itself.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Comfort Counseling LLC?
Comfort Counseling, LLC is a Virginia-based therapy practice offering trauma-informed care, EMDR, and mental health support for adolescents and adults. The practice specializes in maternal/perinatal mental health, trauma recovery, and mental performance work for high-achieving individuals, including athletes. Comfort Counseling emphasizes a warm, relational approach to therapy while prioritizing authentic connection over a clinical or impersonal feel.
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
My husband, Demetrius Biggs, LPC deserves credit as he has been a supporter throughout my ventures and even works alongside me at Comfort Counseling, LLC due to being a therapist as well. My mother is also of great support as she is my biggest cheerleader.
