Inspiring Conversations with Kimberley Mathis of Body & Sole Wellness Massage Studios

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimberley Mathis.

Hi Kimberley, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started because I genuinely love helping people feel better. Massage therapy gave me a way to do that while building something of my own. At first, the goal was pretty simple: give great massages, take care of my clients, and make a living.

Apparently, I misunderstood the assignment.

One thing led to another, and Body & Sole Wellness grew into Massage Therapy Studios in North Carolina and Virginia. Somewhere along the way, I went from massage therapist to business owner, marketer, receptionist, decorator, problem solver, maintenance department, therapist-to-the-therapists, and professional Googler of things I never expected to need to know.

Basically, if you own a small business, you know. 😂

But underneath all the chaos, I really do love what I’ve built. I wanted Body & Sole to be a place where people could come exactly as they are, relax, laugh, feel comfortable, and leave feeling a little better than they did when they walked in. We’re not really the whispering, cucumber-water, “please use your spa voice” kind of place. We’re more like “Come on in, your shoulders are touching your ears again. We need to talk.”

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I’m pretty sure we’ve hit potholes, speed bumps, detours, a couple of ditches, and at least once I’m fairly certain the check-engine light came on.

Owning a small business has probably been one of the most rewarding and humbling things I’ve ever done.

So no, it definitely hasn’t been a smooth road.

But it’s been one heck of a ride—and I wouldn’t trade the lessons, the people, or the journey for anything.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Our business helps people feel better, move more comfortably, and make time for their well-being through personalized massage therapy for relaxation, stress relief, pain management, recovery, and overall wellness. Because every body, lifestyle, and goal is different, each session is tailored to the individual.

What sets us apart is the personal care we bring to every visit. We listen closely, create a welcoming environment, and strive to offer more than a massage—a place where clients can slow down, reset, and leave feeling genuinely better.

We are proud of the supportive, professional culture we have built for both clients and staff. Our brand is rooted in compassion, quality, and connection, and we are here to help people manage stress, ease tension, recover from everyday aches, or simply care for themselves. Wellness is an important part of living well, and we are committed to making it accessible, personal, and enjoyable.

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
You can support our business by booking an appointment, purchasing a gift card, referring a friend or family member, leaving a review, following and sharing our social media content, or simply telling someone about us. Every appointment, recommendation, kind word, and share helps us continue serving our clients and supporting our team.
