Inspiring Conversations with Amanda Lewis of Wonderfully Made Family Services

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Lewis.

Hi Amanda , can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My Journey to Wonderfully Made Family Services

My journey into counseling was not a straight or easy path. It developed gradually, one intentional step at a time. I began with a sincere desire to help people feel understood, supported, and empowered, but I also experienced seasons when I had to pause, reevaluate my direction, and see my purpose from a different perspective.

With greater clarity came the realization that counseling was more than a career for me—it was meaningful work that aligned with my values and life experiences. I devoted myself to learning, developing my clinical skills, and becoming the kind of counselor who recognizes the whole person behind the diagnosis. Along the way, I balanced numerous personal, professional, and educational responsibilities while learning the importance of collaboration and community.

My path also included conflict, disappointment, painful endings, and circumstances that forced me to rebuild. Some experiences completely disrupted what I once believed my future would look like. However, those moments did not destroy my purpose. They gave me a deeper understanding of trauma, resilience, personal agency, and what it means to create a new life after everything familiar has changed.

From that rebuilding process, a new vision emerged. I founded Wonderfully Made Family Services to create a counseling space where people could feel seen without judgment and receive care that honors their identities, experiences, strengths, and individual needs. I wanted clients to have a place where they would not be reduced to their symptoms or pressured into becoming someone else, but supported in becoming healthier and more fully themselves.

My professional mission became even more personal when I learned late last year that I had developed more uterine fibroids, including five fibroids that had grown to approximately the size of a baby’s head. I was quickly scheduled for fibroid-removal surgery just a couple of months later. Navigating the diagnosis, surgery, and recovery was a deeply insightful experience that expanded my understanding of the relationship between women’s mental health and reproductive health.

During that time, I realized just how important it is for women to have meaningful support while facing reproductive-health challenges. I also learned the necessity of slowing down, listening to my body, and intentionally caring for myself. As I reflected on that season and looked back over my life, I became even more aware of how women’s physical health, emotional well-being, relationships, identities, and daily responsibilities continually intersect.

This experience inspired me to add women’s mental health and reproductive health to the areas addressed through my work. I want to educate and support women who are navigating fibroids, reproductive-health concerns, medical procedures, recovery, body changes, uncertainty, and the emotional impact that can accompany these experiences. No woman should feel that she has to face such a significant chapter of her life without being heard, informed, and supported.

Today, I am grateful to do work that once existed only as a hope in my heart. My experiences have taught me that fulfillment does not always come from avoiding hardship; sometimes, it grows from transforming hardship into something meaningful. I now bring both professional knowledge and genuine compassion into my work, striving to balance accountability with grace, truth with empathy, and clinical excellence with humanity.

My story is one of persistence, rebuilding, and purpose. Wonderfully Made Family Services represents more than the beginning of a counseling agency—it represents my decision to transform adversity into advocacy and use what I have learned to help others recognize that they, too, are wonderfully made.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not always been a smooth road. Building my career and counseling agency required me to balance clinical work, entrepreneurship, continuing education, and significant personal responsibilities. There were seasons of uncertainty when I questioned my direction, struggled to manage competing demands, or had to adjust plans that no longer aligned with my purpose.

I have also navigated personal trauma, difficult relationships, professional disappointments, and experiences that challenged my confidence. At times, I had to advocate for myself in environments where I did not feel fully heard, valued, or supported. Learning to establish boundaries, trust my judgment, and continue moving forward—even when others did not understand my vision—became an essential part of my growth.

My reproductive-health journey introduced another major challenge. Learning that I had uterine fibroids, including fibroids that had grown to approximately the size of a baby’s head, and then undergoing surgery shortly afterward required me to slow down and prioritize my well-being. As someone accustomed to caring for others, accepting that I also needed care and support was an important lesson.

Although these experiences were painful and disruptive, they strengthened my compassion, resilience, and commitment to advocacy. They taught me that success is not about having an obstacle-free journey. It is about continuing to learn, rebuild, and remain connected to your purpose. The challenges I encountered ultimately helped shape both the counselor and the woman I am today.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Wonderfully Made Family Services ?
Wonderfully Made Family Services is a counseling practice founded on the belief that every person deserves to feel seen, respected, and supported as a whole human being. As a Licensed Professional Counselor, I provide affirming, trauma-informed, and culturally responsive mental-health services designed to meet clients where they are while helping them move toward meaningful and sustainable change.

My areas of focus include trauma, anxiety, depression, grief and loss, self-esteem, relationship concerns, personality disorders, life transitions, chronic illness, and women’s mental and reproductive health. I am especially passionate about supporting women who are navigating uterine fibroids, reproductive-health concerns, medical trauma, body changes, surgery, recovery, and the emotional impact of feeling unheard or overlooked within healthcare settings.

My work also welcomes clients from communities whose needs and identities have not always been adequately recognized in traditional mental-health spaces. This includes BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ individuals, neurodivergent clients, people in nontraditional relationships, first responders, military-connected individuals, and those recovering from relational, medical, or spiritual trauma.

What sets Wonderfully Made Family Services apart is its individualized, whole-person approach. I do not believe clients should be reduced to a diagnosis or placed into a one-size-fits-all treatment model. I integrate evidence-based approaches—including cognitive-behavioral, acceptance-based, trauma-focused, somatic, solution-focused, strengths-based, and creative-arts interventions—according to each person’s goals, experiences, culture, identity, and readiness for change. Creative expression can provide clients with another way to explore emotions, process experiences, and communicate what may be difficult to express through words alone. Clinical knowledge is important, but so are compassion, authenticity, collaboration, and creating a space where clients feel emotionally safe enough to be honest.

I am most proud that the Wonderfully Made brand represents both affirmation and empowerment. The name reflects the message I want every client to receive: You are not defective, disposable, or defined by what happened to you. You are worthy of care, capable of growth, and deserving of a life that reflects who you truly are.

Through counseling, education, and advocacy, I want to make mental-health care feel more human and accessible. I want readers to know that they do not have to wait until they are completely overwhelmed to seek support, and they do not have to navigate trauma, health challenges, or major life transitions alone. Wonderfully Made Family Services is a space for healing, self-discovery, resilience, and becoming.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
Some of my favorite childhood memories center around imagination, creativity, and family adventures. I loved giving each of my dolls a unique name, personality, voice, and story. They were more than toys to me; they became characters in entire worlds that I created. That early form of storytelling allowed me to explore emotions, relationships, and different perspectives long before I had the professional language to describe them.

I also enjoyed creating arts and crafts from scratch. I could take simple materials and transform them into something personal and meaningful. The joy was not only in the finished creation but also in imagining the possibilities and bringing an original idea to life. That creativity remains an important part of who I am today and influences how I incorporate creative expression into my work.

I also cherish memories of taking road trips with my father, grandmother, siblings, and cousins, especially our trips to the mountains. Being surrounded by family, traveling together, seeing new places, and experiencing the beauty of nature gave me a sense of adventure and connection.

Looking back, these memories reveal parts of me that have always been present: the storyteller, the artist, the observer, and the person who finds meaning in people’s unique personalities and experiences. Those childhood joys continue to influence both my personal life and the compassionate, creative approach I bring to counseling.
