Hidden Gems: Meet Dr. Carmel Wiseman of Precision Fertility Care

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Carmel Wiseman.

Hi Dr. Carmel , thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My work in fertility is both professional and deeply personal. I’m a Doctor of Chiropractic by training, originally focused on perinatal and pediatric care, and I became increasingly drawn to the question of what happens *before* pregnancy—how we can support people in building the healthiest possible foundation for conception, pregnancy, and family life.

My own difficult fertility journey transformed that interest into a calling. It made me see how isolating, overwhelming, and often disempowering fertility care can feel, especially when people are moved quickly toward assisted-reproductive treatments without a sufficiently thorough investigation of the health factors that may be affecting fertility in the first place.

That experience led me to build Precision Fertility Care, where I serve as founder and Director of Clinical Care. My approach combines functional medicine, preconception care, and a detailed root-cause lens—looking at nutrition, inflammation, metabolic health, genetics, environmental factors, nervous-system support, and male-factor fertility rather than viewing fertility only as a reproductive-endpoint problem.

I absolutely value reproductive technology when it is appropriate and needed. My frustration is with a system that can use sophisticated testing primarily to sort people toward IUI or IVF, instead of also asking, “What is this information telling us about this person’s health, and what can we improve?” I believe fertility care should be about more than achieving a positive pregnancy test; it should help create healthier pregnancies, healthier babies, and healthier families.

Today, that belief guides everything I do—from one-to-one concierge care to education, provider collaboration, and advocacy. My life’s work is to empower couples with a more complete understanding of their fertility and give them thoughtful, personalized support as they build the families they hope for.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No—my road has not been smooth. My personal experience with miscarriage and infertility involved years of searching for answers, emotional heartache, financial strain, and costly, invasive treatments before I understood the value of looking more deeply for contributing root causes.

That experience became the foundation of my mission: to help other individuals and couples feel heard, supported, and empowered with a personalized roadmap toward healthier conception and pregnancy.

Professionally, building a concierge functional-fertility practice has also brought challenges: educating people about an upstream, whole-body approach to fertility; creating high-touch systems that support both partners; and establishing clear clinical boundaries around collaboration and care coordination. I have also found that introducing this model to conventional referral networks can take persistence—educational outreach to OB-GYN practices and fertility clinics and foundations has not always translated into referrals.

Still, those struggles have strengthened my commitment to providing the clarity, compassion, and comprehensive support I wish had been available earlier in my own journey.

As you know, we’re big fans of Precision Fertility Care. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Precision Fertility Care is a boutique functional-fertility and preconception practice located in Fairfax, Va. We help couples move beyond uncertainty and guesswork by taking a personalized, root-cause approach to optimizing fertility, preparing for pregnancy, and supporting better outcomes—whether they are trying naturally or alongside assisted reproductive care.

We are known for looking beyond a narrow fertility diagnosis. Our work considers the interconnected foundations that can influence reproductive health, including nutrition and nutrient absorption, inflammation, metabolic health, gut and microbiome balance, toxicant burden, sleep, stress, hormone signaling, genetic factors, and male fertility.

Ways to Work With Us

We are developing several ways for people to access our education, guidance, and care at the level that best fits their needs:

1) Free Fertility Strategy Session: An accessible first step for people who want clearer direction, practical next steps, and a better understanding of how a root-cause approach may support their fertility journey. It also connects participants to our educational resources and community.

2) Monthly Membership: A lower-barrier, ongoing educational community that includes live-streamed conversations, podcasts, expert speakers, and curated fertility and preconception resources. The goal is to make credible, empowering education and support more available to those who may not yet be ready for private concierge care.

3) The Comprehensive Six-Month Concierge Program: A personalized, high-touch private-care experience for those ready to take meaningful action. This program provides focused assessment, customized recommendations, education, and ongoing clinical guidance to help optimize the foundational factors that may affect fertility outcomes.

4) The Ultimate Twelve-Month Concierge Program: Our most comprehensive level of support, designed for individuals and couples with more complex histories or those seeking a longer, fully supported path to preparation, optimization, and pregnancy. It reflects a true concierge model, with deeper personalization, continued accountability, and sustained support across the fertility journey.

What Sets Us Apart

What makes Precision Fertility Care different is that we treat fertility as a whole-person—and, whenever applicable, whole-couple—journey. We intentionally include male-factor health and encourage both partners to participate, because fertility outcomes are not solely a woman’s responsibility.

We also avoid one-size-fits-all plans. Every recommendation is shaped by the individual’s health history, lab findings, genetics, physiology, priorities, and fertility timeline, while our concierge model creates the space for deeper education, meaningful partnership, and individualized guidance.

What We’re Proud Of

We are most proud of building a brand that brings together clinical depth, compassion, and practical empowerment. Our aim is not to make unrealistic promises; it is to ensure that people feel seen, informed, and supported with a clear, personalized path forward during one of the most emotionally demanding experiences of their lives.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up, I was often described as kind, caring, and friendly—though sometimes a little shy. I was naturally curious and drawn to understanding people, what helps them feel better, and how I could be of service.

I have always valued meaningful connection and loved spending time with family and friends. I also felt most at home outdoors and in the water—swimming, water aerobics, hiking, and staying active have long been sources of joy, balance, and well-being for me.

Those early qualities have stayed with me. They continue to shape the way I show up in my work and life: with compassion, integrity, a love of learning, and a commitment to helping create more health and joy within the communities around me. My lifelong connection to movement and wellness has even led me to teach water aerobics for more than 33 years.

This work is deeply personal to me, and I am proud to devote my life to helping people feel less alone and more empowered on their fertility journey. My hope is that every individual and couple I serve leaves with greater clarity, confidence, and support as they build the family they envision.
