Today we’d like to introduce you to Ana Rash.
Hi Ana, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Coco-Nuts has been a dream of mine since I was a little girl growing up in the Dominican Republic. I always loved baking and creating, but for many years it was just that, a dream.
Eventually, I reached a point where I had to decide whether I was going to keep dreaming about it or actually take the chance. I quit my job to pursue Coco-Nuts full-time, which was a huge risk and honestly a little scary. My husband was the one who kept encouraging me and believing in what I could do. With his support, I finally took that leap.
What started as a dream has grown into my own bakery here in Radford. It hasn’t always been easy, and I’ve learned so much along the way, but seeing people walk through our doors, enjoy something I created, and come back again makes that risk worth it. I’m still learning, creating and pushing myself to make Coco-Nuts better every day.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. One of my biggest challenges was learning how to be a business owner while also being the baker, cake artist, marketer, buyer, problem solver and everything in between. I knew how to bake, but running a business was something I had to learn along the way.
There have been slow days, long hours, mistakes, financial worries and moments when I questioned whether I had made the right decision leaving a secure job. Owning a small business can be very rewarding, but it can also be exhausting and unpredictable.
I’ve learned to adapt, listen to my customers and not be afraid to change things when something isn’t working. Every challenge has taught me something, and I think that’s a big part of why Coco-Nuts is still growing today.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a self-taught cake artist and baker, best known for my spectacular wedding cakes, floral cupcakes, and scrumptious, over-the-top desserts. I love taking something delicious and making it beautiful and exciting too. I’m always experimenting with new flavors, designs and trends, but I love adding my own creative touch to everything I make.
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
One thing I’m especially grateful for is the support our community has given Coco-Nuts. Every customer who walks through our door, recommends us, or comes back for another dessert means so much to me. I never take that support for granted. I’m incredibly proud of how far we’ve come, but I still feel like we’re just getting started. There’s so much more I want to create and accomplish.
