Today we’d like to introduce you to Kendall Rife.
Hi Kendall, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in Alexandria, Virginia and worked at The Virginia Florist in high school. I loved working here, and it’s where my love for flowers really grew. I went off to college after high school, earned my CPA license, and worked in accounting for about 8 years. I couldn’t stay away from flowers though, and did several events and friends’ weddings on the side. I always wanted to have my own business as well. After having my first son, I stopped by The Virginia Florist to say hi to the crew and to introduce them to my son. I jokingly said to the owner, “if you ever want to sell, let me know!” To my surprise, he said he was indeed thinking about selling! The stars aligned, and here we are! I’m almost 2 years in and have been having a lot of fun and learning a lot along the way.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Shifting into the roll of business owner and “boss” has definitely been a challenge! I’ve never really managed people to this extent before, and most of the team that was here before stayed. Getting everyone used to changes I’ve made and different ideas I have had has definitely carried its share of bumps in the road. That said, I think we are heading in a really great direction and I’m so excited to see how everything comes together!

We are a full service retail florist and boutique serving the entire DC Metro area. The store has been around for almost 70 years! We are a staple in the Alexandria community and look forward to continuing the store’s legacy. Many people don’t know we have a full boutique in store in addition to being able to fulfill all floral needs.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
While risk taking can be scary, it is a necessary part of growing, developing, and becoming the best version of yourself. I had to take several risks and likely will in the future to make this business venture successful and it is definitely nerve-wracking at times! But with no risk, there is no reward.
