Today we’d like to introduce you to Brian Suarez.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started working on cars in 1996 to put myself through college. After a couple years of working full time and being a fulltime student it was just too much. I loved working on cars so I became a mechanics helper. Went out on my own as a journeyman technician and took all my ASE certifications. Became a master tech and lead technician in the shop I was working in at 23. Floated around a bit helping to build multiple shops. After 30 years in the business the stars aligned and partnered with a friend of mine Phil Rosen to start Gallows Rd Auto. Seeing where the industry is going with big corporate chains, we wanted to create the small neighborhood service center like we grew up with.. Just so happens our shop is in the area we grew up in too.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Having built multiple shops and most with less than stellar reputations, we knew exactly what to do. Its a lot of hard work and long hours but it is coming together. Customer service is key and I believe we have really turned this place around.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I have been working on cars for over 30 years. I have specialized in general automotive repair. I have a deep understanding of how vehicles work and are put together. The way my mind works it just comes naturally. I’m good at evaluating skills and talents and through that have been able to build many shops. When I worked for my previous employer he had 2 shops. My job was to train younger technicians and place them in our ever growing business. After 15 years we were up to 17 repair shop and i had trained dozens of guys. I have built a reputation for my attention to detail and quality of repairs as a technician. As a manager or shop foreman I believe sharing my knowledge of the business and teaching has been a valuable asset to those who have worked for me. Regardless of my role in the shop, my fixed right the first time was over 99%.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Its not necessarily about the money but that is one part. Its more about helping people at the end of the day. If you can make a living doing what you love to do and making a real difference then I feel like that is the best success.
