Today we’d like to introduce you to Zach Green.
Hi Zach, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’m the founder, owner, and one of the expert head trainers at Purest Canines Dog Training. My path into dog training wasn’t exactly traditional.
I majored in Psychology at the University of Mary Washington and spent several years building and operating multiple businesses. While I found success as an entrepreneur, I always felt like something was missing. That changed when I set out on what I thought would simply be a personal mission: finding and training my own personal protection dog.
That journey led me to Raksha, my European Doberman, and eventually introduced me to Kyana, an exceptional trainer who quickly became my mentor in the dog training world. I originally wanted to build an elite personal protection dog, but through the early mornings and late nights spent building Raksha, I discovered a passion for the art and science of training that went far beyond my original goal.
Kyana remains my mentor today and serves as the manager and expert head trainer of Purest Canines at our Fredericksburg location. Her knowledge, standards, and guidance continue to influence the way we train and the standards we hold ourselves to.
My background in psychology has also played a major role in how I approach dog training. I’ve come to believe that great training isn’t just about teaching the dog—it starts with understanding the person. Every dog, owner, and family is different, and lasting results come from creating better communication and confidence on both ends of the leash.
That philosophy is at the heart of Purest Canines.
Today, I’m especially passionate about developing confident, reliable protection dogs, but I get just as much fulfillment from helping everyday owners overcome behavioral challenges and build stronger relationships with their dogs.
Whether I’m working with a family companion, a protection dog, or a difficult behavior case, my goal is always the same: to bridge the gap between humans and canines through clear communication, trust, and mutual respect.
For me, dog training isn’t simply about obedience. It’s about creating a partnership—and helping people understand their dogs well enough to build a relationship that lasts a lifetime.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Of course, there have been trials and tribulations along the way, as there are with any worthwhile challenge. Especially when it comes to building and owning a business in today’s world. There have been setbacks, lessons, lots of long days, and plenty of moments that tested us. But honestly, I wouldn’t go back and change a thing.
Every challenge, every mistake, and every unexpected turn has shaped the person I am, the trainer I’ve become, and ultimately, the business we’ve built. Looking back, I can see how every piece of the journey had a purpose and brought us exactly where we’re supposed to be today.
What started as a personal goal to train one dog has grown into something far bigger: To change people’s lives, one dog at a time. And in a lot of ways, I think that’s the most rewarding part of the entire journey.
We’ve been impressed with Purest Canines Dog Training , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
At Purest Canines, we’re inspired by the unbreakable bond between humans and dogs.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
My mom could probably give you a much better answer to this one… lol.
I’d like to think I was a pretty lively kid. I was competitive, ambitious, curious, respectful, and definitely rebellious at times. Above all, I was always very family- and friend-oriented.
I grew up on a horse farm with my mom and sister, with my grandparents living right next door. From a young age, I learned that hard work and respect weren’t just things you talked about—they were things you lived by. Growing up around animals also taught me responsibility and patience, even if I didn’t always realize it at the time.
I started boxing at a very young age, which definitely fueled my competitive nature and taught me the value of discipline, consistency, and resilience. Especially when things got difficult.
I was also obsessed with our family dogs. I’ve always had a fascination with animals and the way they think and communicate. And according to my mom, I was always getting into something—which, looking back, probably says a lot about my curiosity and the way I’ve always wanted to figure things out for myself.
When I look back, I think a lot of those qualities—the competitiveness, curiosity, work ethic, and connection I’ve always had with animals—ended up playing a much bigger role in shaping who I am today than I ever could have imagined.
