Today we’d like to introduce you to Omar Alsamraay.
Hi Omar, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My name is Omar Alsamraay, I started barbering at 15 years old in Iraq, and when I moved to Harrisonburg at 20, I continued pursuing my passion by working at Kentell’s Barbershop.
In 2013, I opened my first barbershop on 563 University Blvd with one goal: to create a place where people could get a great haircut and leave feeling happy and confident while building a community.
I moved to our current location, 130 University Blvd, in 2019, and in 2023 I opened my second location in Winchester, Virginia. Today I am focused n continuing to grow my business, support other barbers and stylists, and create a welcoming experience for every client.
I’m grateful for how far this journey has taken me. For me, barbering has always been about more than haircuts, its about people, relationships and bringing joy to the community.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road from constantly being on the market for barbers and clients but it has been a blessing all at the same time because we have met incredible people.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
We are a full-service grooming and beauty business. We specialize in men’s and children’s haircuts, fades, tapers, beard services, and grooming.
Upstairs we offer a variety of beauty services for women including nails, hair color, waxing, eyelashes, facials, permanent makeup, braiding, and tattoo removal. Our goal is to make it convenient for clients to take care of all their beauty and grooming needs in one place.
What makes us different is that we focus on quality, customer service, and making everyone feel welcome.
We’re also very passionate about giving back. Through our partnerships with local organizations and community events, especially our back-to-school initiatives, we’ve been able to provide free haircuts and support families throughout our community. We believe that when our community supports us, we have a responsibility to give that support right back.
We’re most proud of building a brand that is known for not only great services but also for being a business that genuinely cares about its clients and community.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
My family makes me happy. Our community coming together to support each other also makes me happy.
