Today we’d like to introduce you to Leigh Heasley.
Hi Leigh, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I have always been sensitive, dreamy, inquisitive, contemplative, and creative. At a young age I was questioning separateness; people’s challenged relationship with themselves, each other, and nature. Gifted with a strong sense of self and deep care for all of life, I was always seeking ways to reconcile what seemed irreconcilable while also still being enthralled with insatiable wonder and a passion for sharing it. A breakthrough, an awakening, occurred during the birth of my daughter that pulled all these pieces together giving me direction.
At the age of 27 I had been married four years when we had our daughter. Her birth was traumatic for all of us. She was an emergency c section. My bladder needed surgery because it had been cut during the procedure. Six weeks later I had emergency spinal surgery, just two weeks after having the catheter removed. Over the next year my digestion and pelvic floor became untenable. After many tests and surgeries, nothing was conclusive. Suggested management of symptoms was pharmaceuticals.
During this time, my daughter was having digestive issues as well. I could barely keep myself together let alone be there for her and still participate as a wife while having dreams of building my career as a hair/makeup artist. Life seemed insurmountable. I turned to spirituality, alternative healing modalities, and self advocating. The internet was a gift, giving me access to it all including community to help me navigate uncharted waters.
I did a deep dive within. Seeking wisdom in unconventional ways, most importantly building a stronger connection with intuition. It was the key to finding what I needed when I need it. Reiki, yoga, and the mystical arts were integral to healing myself and my family.
New found wellness rerouted me away from unsupportive people and experiences. I decided to open my own salon and a few years later, I transitioned away from the beauty industry into energy healing, teaching yoga, and delving into art in its many forms.
My wish is that I can help people feel safe to take up space, nurturing their inner child, un-conditioning the mind, freeing up energy to co create in-joy and to EMPOWER THE WILD MAGICK OF BEING.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Life is beautifully imperfect. It is how we evolve. I continue to be tested. It is the human condition. We are here to learn.
Sometimes it seems we are repeating old lessons, but if we take a wider view it becomes apparent that we may be at a similar place but with different skills that we have gained through our lived experiences. We can use that wisdom to take a new path not just a different version of the old narrative. In either case I believe it all has purpose.
The wheel keeps turning, an ever expanding spiral out and back; following the breath of the universe. Trust is what keeps us centered, anchored like a tree rooted into the Earth, while life moves through and around us.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I love all art but my favorite way to express is through writing, movement, experimental sound, digital photography, editing, and abstraction, as well as traditional mediums such as drawing with pen/pencil, painting with watercolor, and using markers of all kinds to give my subconscious an outlet to run wild.
Nothing is planned. A spark could be grand beauty, or deeply meaningful subtleties, or brought about by strong emotions, or inspired by someone I admire. To tap into a flow state all I need focused intent.
A lot of my free time is spent with friends, family, attending classes and following others on social media who are tuned in to their ISness. I love sharing the fullness of potential with others. It gives me hope, fills my soul, and emboldens me to keep following my bliss. Healthy relating allows us all to thrive.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
You will meet your tribe and ride the coattails of luck when you embody ALL that you are while opening to what you may yet BEcome. Judge less. Question more. Actively engage life wholeheartedly and watch what happens!
