Today we’d like to introduce you to Gemma Linden.
Hi Gemma, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I had a very hectic upbringing so I wanted to make something of myself. All throughout high-school I loved doing hair. I was adopted when I was young and I grew up in a predominantly white family and wanted to teach myself how to braid hair. I would do my own, my friends, and even a mannequins (LOL). I graduated high school and started in cosmetology school and originally worked with hair, but I eventually found my passion in nails. I still love braiding but mainly do it for myself now. I’ve been doing nails professionally for a couple years, and after working at a spa, I decided it was time to take the leap and open my own suite. That’s how Gemz Nail Bar came to life! I’m still learning and growing every day, but I’m really proud of how far I’ve come and excited for what’s next. I love being able to express my artistic abilities through nails and it’s one of my biggest enjoyments.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not quite been a smooth road. I think starting a business and establishing yourself always has its challenges. Building clientele, discovering your specialties, and finding motivation are all struggles I’ve had. I really do love what I do and meeting new people along the way is always a good experience!!

I specialize in any type of nail enhancement or natural nail health!! I love providing a fun relaxing environment for all of my clients. I want my clients to know that I truly do care about making them feel beautiful and heard. I’m not just a nail tech I’m also someone to talk to, feel beautiful with, or even just relax after a long day with.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love all of the food places (LOL) and the historic parts to explore as well.
My dislikes are probably the diversity. I would love to meet more open minded people here or jut see more diversity.
If we’re talking about business however:
My likes would probably be the creative things that people want on their nails. I don’t know if it’s the same everywhere but I love what people have in mind.
My dislikes would be how hard it is to get yourself out there and actually build a clientele. I love my job but would love to share my craft with so many more!!
