Today we’d like to introduce you to Killian Bundy.
Hi Killian, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
In August 2015 Black Water Tattoo and Design opened its doors with with a mission to bring professional tattooing in a clean, friendly environment to the people of Loudon County Virginia. I worked at another local shop prior to opening, but that experience left a lot to be desired both for the client and the other artists at the shop. I do a lot of tattoo conventions, and try to get out to do guest spots at other shops with more experienced artists and owners whenever I can. I believe continuing to learn and grow is very important.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There have been parts of the road that were very smooth, but there have been numerous struggles as well.
At multiple points during the shop’s journey I have been the only artist tattooing at the shop. Weathering a three month shutdown during the covid19 pandemic was incredibly difficult, and definitely took a toll on my mental health. I have always pursued growth as a tattooer and business owner, but as I have gained experience reaching new levels has become increasingly difficult. While these challenges were at times difficult to overcome I would not trade any of it for an easier path. The adversity I have faced has made me a resilient artist and entrepreneur.
As you know, we’re big fans of Black Water Tattoo and Design. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Black Water Tattoo and Design is and has always remained committed to bringing quality tattoos to Loudon County Virginia in a clean, safe, and fun environment. Our artists are well versed in multiple styles, and committed to creating long lasting designs that will stand the test of time. We have watched shops come and go over the eleven years that we have been in business, but none of them have lasted. Our artists do not use generative AI, are knowledgeable on the foundations of drawing and painting as well as tattooing. We honor the traditions that have been handed down from master to apprentice in tattooing for more than a century.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Tattooing is a journey, not a destination. There is always something else to learn, but the pillars of the craft have been put in place for a reason. Only time will tell if you are doing good tattoos. Keep pushing, keep climbing through the ranks, and keep showing up for your clients.

- Multisession pieces are priced at an hourly rate.
- Single Session pieces are flat rate (Which is determined at the consultation)
