Today we’d like to introduce you to Christopher Polanco.
Hi Christopher, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started out as a self-taught oil painter at 17, obsessed with light, composition, and visual storytelling. Over time, that artistic eye naturally expanded into photography, and eventually, digital marketing. After working in marketing at a wealth management firm, the real turning point came when I started managing marketing for my cousin’s company. That was when I realized just how little time small business owners have to invest in their own digital presence while running day-to-day operations.
Today, I bridge that gap by handling the heavy lifting: taking high-quality commercial photos, updating websites and Google profiles, and managing social posts. My goal is simple: give owners their time back while using my background in visual art to build a polished online presence that naturally attracts their ideal clients.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The struggles hit from every side at first. It was a steep jump going from capturing photos to handling the behind-the-scenes work, like drafting solid contracts and setting up real operational systems. On top of that, you run into business owners who don’t immediately see the point of investing in their digital presence.
As a creative, you suddenly have to learn how to be a salesperson, too. You have to learn how to show a busy owner why saving them time and elevating their visual brand is worth the investment. It hasn’t been easy, moving to Virginia and building momentum in a new market, but every roadblock has forced me to learn on the fly and build a much stronger foundation.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I work at the intersection of fine art and Marketing. As a surrealist oil painter with 16 years of experience, I’ve spent over a decade honing how to build captivating visual concepts from scratch. I take that exact trained eye for light, color harmony, and composition and apply it to commercial photography, social media management, and website design for small businesses.
What sets me apart, and what I’m most proud of, is that I don’t look at branding through a cookie-cutter corporate template; I look at it through the lens of a fine artist. When a business owner works with me, they get high-level visual direction combined with down-to-earth service. They get me directly doing the work, keeping services fair and honest so they don’t have to pay an arm and a leg just to look top-tier online.
We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I think we all need a spark of luck to get things moving. Sometimes luck looks like meeting the right person at the right time, or just trusting a gut feeling to point out to a business owner that their website link is broken, which turns into a long-term client relationship.
People often call those moments opportunities, but I think luck is just what happens when those moments pop up when you least expect them. That said, luck doesn’t mean much on its own. You have to be out there painting, shooting, and pitching every single day so that when those moments show up, you’re actually ready for them. The work comes first; luck is just the cherry on top.
