Today we’d like to introduce you to Christie Bazemore.
Hi Christie, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I fell in love with my home and kitchen (like most) during Covid. I had never really had the time to cook or the desire to make a fuss over dinner, and when time became all there was, I threw myself into cookbooks and artbooks, rediscovering so much enjoyment in the everyday tasks. I planned what to put together and learned how to stock our pantry. The mundane routine became the best hours of the evening, and when we could finally invite friends over again what a thrill it was to rediscover the dinner party. Our home became my favorite place, and this big pink building has certainly become a haven for our creativity and ideas. Casa Rosa is a dream that fought its way into existence. This store has become an ongoing art project for myself, housing all the random gems I love to collect and draw inspiration from. It is a kitchen store first. A treasure hunt second. We carry new and old pieces to help decorate your table, stock your pantry and love the kitchen you live in!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Prior to the shop opening, I have been a hair stylist and salon owner for most of my adult career. My husband and I had been dreaming of moving from the city we were in and with that, opening a new kind of business for ourselves. I have been a small business owner for many years but not in the retail industry. Needless to say, Im learning something new everyday! Making the switch from selling services to products has been overwhelming at times. Luckily, this shop is built around all the things I love to shop for myself! We very much want the focus of what we are selling to be incredibly useful, functional and/or consumable. Therefore, creating as little waste as possible. Finding out the need for this kind of inventory in our town involved a little research…we wanted to fill some gaps beyond more gift type retail to everyday use retail.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I have always been enthralled by art and design. Even within the Cosmetology world playing with shapes and color can easily translate into any canvas. Im also an avid thrifter and love the thrill of the hunt in all sorts of various places. You just never know when you might stumble upon something that becomes your favorite silly thing. I love old crockery and stoneware….and linens! Im very selective about items that make it into my kitchen, they have to perform well but also beautifully stand the test of time. My hope for Casa Rosa is that the shop itself demonstrates the power of small spaces, and to inspire our customers to be brave in consideration for what matters most in the heart of the home. If it’s something you use everyday, they should be pieces you love.
My husband and I did most of the work putting the shop together so I am very proud of that. It feels like walking into our home. The store is designed to feel relaxed and comfortable that way, I feel like Im entertaining four days a week. Whether neighbors and customers are shopping or not, I hope stepping through the door feels like a welcome reprieve.
