Community Highlights: Meet Windy Blades of Tactical Health & Wellness

Today we’d like to introduce you to Windy Blades.

Hi Windy, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey to Tactical Health & Wellness has been anything but linear. I am a U.S. Army combat veteran who spent years navigating the physical and emotional effects of military service while also struggling with my own weight and wellness. At my heaviest, I weighed 250 pounds. My educational journey began in 1993 as I worked toward my Associate degree while balancing military life, work, and everything else that came along the way.

In 2015, I began my Bachelor’s program in Health Sciences and completed it in 2019, going on to earn my Master of Public Health in 2021 and my Doctor of Health Sciences in 2024. Throughout that journey, I gained a much deeper understanding of how movement, nutrition, stress, recovery, and mindset work together. In 2022, I began intentionally applying that knowledge to my own life, ultimately losing 70 pounds and changing the way I viewed wellness.

That transformation has become the foundation for Tactical Health & Wellness Center. What began as a traditional brick-and-mortar fitness business has evolved into a concierge wellness model focused on helping military members, veterans, first responders, and their families build strength, resilience, and sustainable wellness. My philosophy is simple: sometimes we need to go back to the basics and redefine what being well really means.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, it has definitely not been a smooth road. I have experienced plenty of setbacks, both personally and professionally. There have been seasons when I questioned whether I was on the right path, but each challenge has taught me something about resilience, adaptability, and knowing when it is time to change direction.

One of the biggest challenges has been building a business while still figuring out exactly what model best serves the people I want to help. I opened a brick-and-mortar location, but after six months, I realized that the traditional fitness model was not the right fit. Closing that space was difficult, but it also gave me the clarity to rethink the business and move toward a more personalized concierge model.

I have learned that setbacks are not necessarily failures. Sometimes they are information. They show you what is working, what is not, and what needs to change. That lesson has become a big part of how I approach both my own life and the work I do with my clients: keep moving forward, be willing to adapt, and do not be afraid to redefine the path when the path is no longer serving you.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Tactical Health & Wellness is a concierge wellness business built around a simple idea: there is another way to wellness. I work with military members, veterans, first responders, and their families to help them build strength, improve functional movement, manage stress, and develop sustainable habits that support their overall well-being.

What sets Tactical Health & Wellness apart is that I do not believe wellness should be approached as a one-size-fits-all program. My work brings together functional fitness, core strengthening, movement, nutrition, stress management, Reiki, and coaching to look at the whole person rather than focusing on a single number or outcome. I specialize in helping people get back to the basics—learning how to move well, build strength, understand their bodies, and create habits they can actually maintain.

I am especially proud of the evolution of the Tactical Health & Wellness brand. “Tactical” is about being intentional, strategic, adaptable, and prepared for whatever life puts in front of you. It is not about how hard you can push yourself; it is about having the tools and resilience to navigate life well. That philosophy is captured in our tagline: “Resilience redefined: another way to wellness.”

My offerings include personalized fitness and functional movement programming, the Core Connection program, nutritional discovery and customized nutrition planning, Reiki sessions, and Life, Health, and Executive Coaching, along with workshops and retreats focused on resilience and stress management.

Ultimately, I want people to understand that wellness is not about perfection. It is about building the strength, knowledge, and resilience to live your life well—and sometimes that means finding another way to get there.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
If there is one thing I would want readers to take away, it is this: do not give up on yourself.

Embrace who you are, exactly where you are, including the limitations and challenges you may be facing. Those limitations do not define who you are, and they do not have to determine what is possible for your health and wellness.

Your journey may not look like someone else’s, and the path you take may not be the path you originally imagined. That is okay. Sometimes reaching our goals requires us to approach them differently, adjust our expectations, or simply find another way.

There is always another way to move forward. There is always another way to work toward better health and wellness. You just have to be willing to believe that you are worth the effort and refuse to give up on yourself.

That, to me, is what resilience really means.
