Daily Inspiration: Meet Stephanie Willis Mackey

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie Willis Mackey.

Hi Stephanie Willis, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My husband Calvin Edward Mackey and I, were presented with the idea of senior care by our friends from Calvary Reformation Church; Melvin and Gwendolyn White. My husband dove right in with excitement. I had to take thoughtful consideration and now I am so very honored and grateful to the White family for their supernatural intervention.

We began caring for residents in our own home in October 2020, at the onset of COVID. Once we knew that this was the Lord’s plan, we formulated the business officially in 2021.

By 2022, both of our homes were Faint Not-Your4EverHome locations. Chesapeake and Virginia Beach, Virginia.

Concierge level care at Faint Not includes, loving appreciation and respect for our seniors, honoring our career family to the best of our ability, providing optimal care for residents, some with multiple diagnoses with the goal being to prevent reoccurring hospitalizations and improving quality of life for seniors through family participation, activities, celebrations and most importantly spiritual growth.

We give all glory to our Lord and Savior Christ Jesus and I give honor to my husband for taking the first steps and encouraging me to move forward.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I don’t believe that any small, family owned, Christian business is smooth. However, the fact that I know that this is the God’s business, I know that we are covered and therefore I don’t carry the weight. I give it to him.

Learning how to become a CEO and not solely a Mastered Prepared RN has been one of the hardest challenges. Our eldest son taught me that. Calvin James helped us for an entire year traveling back and forth from NYC. I learned a lot of my business acumen from him. Now our daughter is assisting us as COO, as she serves in her new career in civil rights law, at the Legal Defense Fund.

Learning how to make business decisions regarding staffing, 24/7 care provision and tightening the financial business belt are more to name a few.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a registered nurse with a Masters degree in nursing education. I have spent 40 years as an RN and I have worked in the Sentara and Bon Secours healthcare systems, Chesapeake Regional Medical Center in 1985 – 1987 and Chesapeake Community Health Clinic on Campostella Road, in 1987-1989.

I taught as an Assistant Professor of Nursing at Norfolk State University, Department of Nursing 1992-1994 and at Hampton University, School of Nursing from 1994-2002.

My nursing degrees were achieved in 1985 and 1992.

My specialties are medical / surgical nursing, cardiology, geriatric nursing, community health, and most importantly preventive health.

I think that I am most known for the gifts God gave me of edification and giving. I think that I am also most known for my compassionate care and effective care results out of flexibility and critical thinking. I have a make it happen mentality and I truly believe in the capability of others.

I sincerely try to operate in humility and confidence. The Word of God teaches that pride comes before a fall.

What sets Faint Not – Your4EverHome, LLC and myself apart from others is that there is a constant desire to operate in compassion, integrity, passion and sincerity within our career family. We do not view our residents as patients with diagnoses. We interact with our residents and families based upon who they are, their interests and their past successes. We also have 1:2 to 1:6 ratios of care with a myriad of support staff throughout the day and night. Lastly, we have proprietary opportunities that are unique in their own right.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
Neither has played a role in our business. Rather, divine intervention that requires necessary listening skills and obedience to what is being downloaded into our spirit.

Discernment, critical thinking and wisdom from the Word of God and earthly things are paramount.

If something happens that is difficult to manage we strive in the above areas and work to correct the areas needed as quickly and efficiently as possible. It may hurt, but it helps.
