Today we’d like to introduce you to Mackenzie Krob.
Hi Mackenzie , thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Glow Theory Studio started as a small side business with one simple goal: to help people feel more comfortable, confident, and beautiful in their own skin. I’ve always loved the beauty industry, and as someone who is naturally fair-skinned, I personally understood how something as simple as a sunless tan could give you that extra boost of confidence.
When I launched Glow Theory Studio, I wanted to create an experience that felt different from a traditional spray tan appointment. I designed a fully customized RV studio so I could bring a luxury, personalized spray tanning experience directly to my clients. What started with me traveling around the New River Valley in that RV has grown into something much bigger than I ever imagined.
Now, after a year in business, Glow Theory Studio has grown from a side business into a brand and community that I’m incredibly proud of. I’ve had the opportunity to serve hundreds of clients, build relationships with other local businesses, attend events throughout the area, and create friendships with so many of the people who originally came to me simply for a spray tan.
The most exciting part is that we’re just getting started. Glow Theory Studio will soon be expanding beyond the RV into a salon space, and I’ll also be bringing another artist onto the team so we can accommodate even more clients throughout the NRV.
The heart behind the business hasn’t changed. My goal is still to make every person who walks through the door feel comfortable, cared for, and confident. The difference now is that what started as a little idea has turned into something I can continue growing, and I’m so excited to see where the next year takes us.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Overall, the journey has been incredibly easy going, I mean I get to make people feel amazing about themselves everyday so I really can’t complain about this job, ever! The biggest challenge has been learning how to balance running a business with my home life. As a mom of two young children, managing appointments, business responsibilities, and family time can be a lot at times. It has definitely required organization, flexibility, and extra help from those around me. But even with those challenges, I feel very fortunate. My family is incredibly supportive, and always willing to help in any way they can.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
What I specialize in is completely customized sunless tanning from start to finish. Every appointment is tailored to the individual client, their skin, their plans, and the look they want to achieve. During consultations, I ask what feels like a million and one questions, which may seem like overkill, but those details truly help me create the most beautiful, natural-looking custom color possible. I want to know everything from the climate they’ll be traveling to and whether their skin may need extra hydration, to what color dress they’ll be wearing. All of those details can make a difference in creating a tan that complements them perfectly.
I’m most proud of making sure every person who comes in feels comfortable and confident when they leave. Let’s face it, getting undressed in front of a stranger isn’t always the easiest thing in the world, so I do everything I can to make the experience feel relaxed, professional, and comfortable from beginning to end.
Another thing that sets me apart is that I’m always investing back into the business and looking for ways to give my clients the best experience possible. Even when something costs me more, my priority is making sure they receive the best of the best. That might mean trying a new wipe to remove old tan and balance the skin, adding a machine attachment that blows powder for a more comfortable finish, or testing new solutions until I find what works best for my clients and the climate we’re in.
I could take the cheapest or easiest route, but that’s not why I started this. I wanted to make a difference in not only in how my clients feel about themselves, but also in how they feel about tanning. It isn’t the way it was ten years ago, where one color fits everyone. Every person, every skin tone, and every occasion is different, and I’m proud to create an experience and a result that reflects that.
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
I wouldn’t be where I am today without the people who have supported me along the way. My family has always been willing to help, whether that meant watching my kids for me or encouraging me through every stage of growth while also keeping me realistic with some of my goals. My husband deserves so much credit for taking on every idea I come up with and doing whatever he can to help make it happen. He took on late nights with the kids after working all day just to help me get more clients seen and keep my dream alive….and the kids haha.
I’m also incredibly grateful to Klaudia, the girl who trained me and helped give me the foundation to begin this journey. And, of course, my clients deserve the biggest thank-you of all. Without their trust, support, and willingness to continue coming back and recommending me to others, this would never have become what it is today.
