Today we’d like to introduce you to Sara Woznicki.
Hi Sara, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
The story begins in the middle of the night in July of 1991…. Just kidding, I won’t start the story that long ago, but it does feature someone who has known me since that time — my sister. Roll forward to a couple years ago, she sent me a reel about someone on Instagram that they made six figures selling stickers online. She said, “Sara, I can draw better than that!”
So I challenged her to do it.
I know how to build a website, sell products online, create social media content. If she can make designs, I can get it out into the world almost on anything we could imagine.
We both have love to travel, so when we were bouncing ideas off of each other about what exactly Louanne would draw, it seemed obvious to us to focus in on our love of travel. From there, the idea for Woz Here Co. blossomed — we focused on making unique watercolor, hand-drawn travel mementos. We want to become *the* site where travelers go to get their city stickers to pay homage to their favorite trips.
Since that time, we’ve launched about 20 different city designs and done over a dozen custom orders. We’ve also launched sticker vending machine rentals, with which we’ve done weddings, conferences, corporate events, trade shows and apartment complex parties.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I’d prefer to call it ‘learning opportunities’ and not struggles, but yes we’ve learned a lot! For example, we’ve had to really refine our pricing to make sure we’re being fair to ourselves and our customers. We’ve also learned a lot about running a small business — like taxes and customer service.
Another struggle is honestly just time. There are so many ideas we have, but we always have to relentlessly prioritize what we focus on since time is not infinite.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Our company is called Woz Here Co. We create hand-drawn, watercolor designs that feature landmarks and icons from our favorite travel destinations. We’re big believers in humans, so we hand draw and paint on paper every design. We also do custom designs and run a sticker vending machine. There are so many wonderful artists out there, so what sets us apart from others is what also sets them apart too — we’re all unique and our perspectives are one-of-a-kind. What we might include in a design celebrating Richmond is likely different than what someone else would select.
We also pride ourselves on being easy to work with. We are honored to be a part of so many big life events. We don’t want to add any stress to your big event, so we aim to be flexible, transparent, communicative and deliver as-expected.
How do you think about happiness?
Being part of the art community! We’ve met so many wonderful fellow artists, small business owners, and — of course — our customers.
