Today we’d like to introduce you to Joyce Rutti.
Hi Joyce, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
After our dogs passed away several years ago, we felt empty not having fur babies to love. Knew some people that volunteered with billy the kidden rescue and started to get involved in the rescue and have adopted several cats from there. I started out as a foster then got turned into trapping and fell in love with that aspect. I am now a high volume foster, trap director, and vice president with billy the kidden rescue. I started volunteering in this rescue around 2019 and has become my passion. Especially the trapping part of it. I love going out in the field saving cats. Including in trees, under houses, in sewer drains, etc
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has been a learning curve with all of the positions and responsibilities that I have within the rescue. Trapping especially. No trap job is the same and a lot of the times we had to get creative, especially saving little babies that are in hard to reach places.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a financial analyst for a shipyard. Have been at this current position for over 26 years. That is a full-time job and as many hours as I put into the rescue, that can sometimes seem full-time as well.
What matters most to you?
The cat and kittens lives that we make a difference in. If it was not for our amazing volunteers and community support, we would not be able to save as many cats in the community. Seeing the cats go from shy and scared to friendly and lovable, and making that connection with the adoptive parents makes the late nights and hours worth it
