Today we’d like to introduce you to Kimiko Yerick.
Hi Kimiko, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My name is Kim Yerick. I am the owner of Learning Lane Tutors based in Woodbridge Va. I transitioned from being a first grade teacher at a public school to running my own tutoring business. In 2025 decided to start my own tutoring business so that I could pursue my love of teaching in a more one on one approach. My business has shown profound growth, and I am pleased to say I have added three more tutors to my business since I started! Tutoring has given me a lot more control of my work/life balance along with being able to have a more profound impact on students with one on one interaction.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I think the start of every road has it’s bumps! I started my tutoring company because as much as I loved teaching, I was feeling pulled in a different direction. I still loved working with children and teaching the future generation, and wanted to continue to do so. Starting your own business is a scary prospect, but I took a deep breath and decided this was the path I was choosing. Tutoring gave me more control of my schedule, but of course starting off and building clients is a risk. I am still seeing growth, and hope to continue to do so! I take pride in the help myself and my tutors provide to our clients, and hold us all to high standards.
As you know, we’re big fans of Learning Lane Tutors. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Learning Lane Tutors is a local tutoring business that I created to provide quality learning for students that are in need of a little extra help to stay on track. We have helped students with special needs show great growth academically, and hopefully all students feel more confident in their ability to achieve in subjects they didn’t feel as confident in previously. Our tutoring services are provided for students from elementary to highschool, and I have also helped provide SAT prep.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I love having hobbies that are out of the ordinary! I am also a fourth degree black belt in addition to a mixxedfit dance instructor.
