Today we’d like to introduce you to Kashan Khan.
Hi Kashan, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Kashan Khan. I was born and raised in Northern Virginia to Pakistani parents, and I’m the founder of SBG Visionaries.
My path here wasn’t a straight line. My first job, while I was still a senior in high school, was as a stylist at Nordstrom. I’ve always had a passion for fashion, and that job let me be around it every day. It also taught me sales and how to communicate with clients, two things I still use at every wedding.
My longest career after that was in banking. I spent six years as a banker, and I was also a real estate agent for two years. Banking and real estate taught me great marketing skills that I use today to help clients grow their business through media.
I started SBG Visionaries in late 2018. At first, weddings weren’t even the plan. I wanted to interview local business owners, tell their stories and make content that motivated people. That led me to my cousin’s restaurant, which also hosted small wedding events. I went in to film a promo video for him.
That shoot changed everything. While I was there, I met an event decorator who became my first major connection in the industry. She sparked my interest in weddings, and I knew this was my calling. Everything I had worked for was falling into place. I could enjoy my craft and create memories couples would keep forever.
Since then, SBG Visionaries has covered over 1,000 weddings and events across the country, and our work has been featured in The Knot, WeddingWire and South Asian Bride Magazine. A lot of our couples share my background, and those weddings are close to my heart. It’s days of family, color and tradition, and I want every couple to feel like the main characters in their own film.
I’m glad to have my brother Kam be a part of my team since the beginning and my good friend Waqar with whom I also started a Pakistani clothing brand with, aligning with my passion for fashion.
Being at so many events also showed me what guests remember, and that’s where Waffle Wala came from. It’s my mobile waffle cart I started last year, making fresh, hot waffles on a stick live at weddings and corporate events.
As a serial entrepreneur here in the DC region, I truly love what I do, and I’m blessed to work in beautiful places with amazing clients and vendors.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Convincing my parents that I don’t want to take the standard path in my career and studies and become a photographer. Explaining to them that this is a business I’m running and not just a fun hobby
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about SBG Visionaries?
SBG Visionaries is a luxury wedding and event photography and cinematography team based in the D.C. area. We travel for weddings in New York, Florida and anywhere else our couples need us. We’ve covered over 1,000 weddings and events, and our work has been featured in The Knot, WeddingWire and South Asian Bride Magazine.
We’re known for South Asian weddings. What sets us apart is how we tell the story. Every wedding we cover is treated like a film. We want our couples to feel like the main characters and to have photos and videos that look like they came out of a movie.
How do you define success?
To me, success is turning vision into fruition, and staying the same person while I do it.
Success is staying grounded while lifting up the people around me, my family and friends. If they’re growing with me, I know I’m doing something right.
It’s also being grateful for everything, including the hard parts. The setbacks and closed doors helped build who I am today.
