Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica Arrington.
Hi Jessica, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’m a canine nutritionist and holistic pet health coach. I got into this because I no longer accepted the answers I was being given with my own pets. The answer I kept hearing was a prescription or a different bag of kibble, and nobody was asking why the dog was sick in the first place.
So I started asking. Today I run Wild Wellness Pet, where we’re ReWilding how people care for their dogs and cats: real food and a cleaner environment, so the body can do what it already knows how to do. I also host a podcast, The Pet Parenting Reset, where I talk through all of this with pet parents.
My favorite part is the moment someone realizes they have a lot more say in their dog’s health than they thought.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it hasn’t been smooth. Honestly, this work doesn’t pay what it costs. The hours are long, and a lot of them go into building something that hasn’t paid you back yet.
The part that wears on me most isn’t the hours, though. It’s that dogs do better when their people change things, and change takes effort. It’s a lot easier to hand over a pill than to rethink what’s in the bowl and what’s in the house. I get that. But I’ve watched dogs get their energy back, and then watched the owner drift back to the old routine because it was inconvenient. That’s the hard part.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a canine nutritionist and holistic pet health coach, and I work with pet parents who are done with the one-size-fits-all approach. I look at the whole dog: what’s in the bowl, what’s in the air and water at home, how much sunlight and time outside they get, and how their nervous system is holding up. I’m not a veterinarian. My job is to help people ask better questions and make informed choices.
I call my approach ReWilding. Dogs evolved to live a certain way, and a lot of modern life, from the food to the cleaning products to the scented candles, works against that. I’m known for starting people with those basics before they reach for anything else. I teach it through Wild Wellness Pet and my podcast, The Pet Parenting Reset.
What I’m proudest of is the moment a client stops handing their authority over to someone else and starts advocating for their dog. It can be easy to refuse flea and tick chemical, but seeing a pet parent ask questions about a “prescription” kibble and leaving with the confidence that it isn’t healthy or necessary, is rewarding. What sets me apart is that I want my clients to need me less over time. I put a lot of time and energy into educating so that pet parents understand why we do what we do.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
Honestly, not much. I don’t really believe in luck. What I have, I built by working hard and showing up when it wasn’t paying off yet. If I had to name anything close to luck, it would be the people who crossed my path along the way, like Dr. Ian Billinghurst, Dr. Josie Beug, Dr. Ruth Roberts, Rita Hogan, so many that I can’t name them all here. They’ve all been guests on my podcast. But I had to be doing the work to be worth their time.
